Well it's very cold in the Texas Panhandle today and the shop is no better. I picked up this base from a friend in Albuquerque, NM and plan to use it to roll my small blasting cabinet and the dust vacuum on. It's about 53"x30" with two brake wheels, I cut off the four 1/4" upright tabs with my trusty hacksaw. This isn't helping my work smarter plans as I get older. I'll weld in three cross pieces and cover the top with something, more to follow.

Re: Repurposing a rolling base for the blast cabinet

I'm starting to clean up the cabinet, removing the Fisher Stereo glass was a pain. I bought some .28 wire but it broke easily so I stepped it up with what I had on hand.

It is really frustrating to do these work and I would suggest you to take help of any expert in these field rather then doing it yourself as any minor mistake will make you do all again.

Be sure to have the wheels positioned relative to the cabinet so you are not chasing it while you are blasting. i find that I tend to press my chest against the cabinet while blasting. The gun you have seems to be the same gun used in an Empire cabinet at work, which is the one I modeled my shop gun after in the link below so I could get consumable parts.

Here's what your cabinet would look like in Kangaroo green. Seems to be a Trinco like mine. Take note how the glass is attached by an external frame on mine. It is clamped in place by the frame against a rubber strip seal.

Re: Repurposing a rolling base for the blast cabinet

Thank you for the links, I was wonder about painting the inside, how does the paint stand up to the blasting?

It started to snow this morning and continued to all day, my oldest daughter decided today was moving day (new house for them). So I gathered up an enclosed trailer/truck and labored in the snow.

I'll need to get up early and head out to the shop. I'd like to get the blast cabinet in primer this weekend.

The endurance of the inside paint will vary depending on what you are blasting, and what abrasive you are using. A cabinet at work which always does glass bead on small items has held up for over 30 years with a spot on the back left wall about 18" worn away now. The more various directions you are twisting the gun, the more wear, but I think it is worth it for the increased visibility. It is easy to paint back with a brush anyway.

I sanded 90% of the cabinet today, hoped to get it in primer tomorrow.
