Small Capacity Gasoline Bottle

Does anyone know a source for DOT approved quart or half gallon gasoline bottles. Ideally I would like it to have a screw off cap (about the size of a Gatorade bottle) w/o vent or nozzle. Not even sure if DOT containers meet code without a vent? The gas with be mixed 50/1 for a 2 stoke engine. I was thinking about using something like a quart oil bottle, but I don't want the plastic dissolving into the gas and damaging the engine at all costs. This will be filled from a larger container, so no concern about filling it at a gas station. I have a bunch of aluminum bottles (MSR) with hard plastic screw in lids that are used for white gas. I just wasn't sure if these would vent before blowing and prefer plastic for noise and damage control.

You can buy 40-1 or 50-1 pre mix at Lowes in metal containers. They are not vented I am sure they get to Lowes in a truck that is not protected from heat or cold exposure and they are shipped in case quantity, I would assume DOT is OK with how they get to Lowes and understand that they will be taken from Lowes in a motor vehicle. Other than that I just bought a RotoPax 1 Gallon can for gas oil mix.

Exactly. REI, and most other outdoors stores, too. You'll find aluminum Sigg-style fuel bottles and fluorinated LDPE Nalgene-style bottles in quart sizes with no trouble.

Thanks for the ideas and links so far mentioned. I have the aluminum camping white gas bottles, but really want a plastic solution. Will HPE free "Nalgene" bottles work? I have plenty of those too, just thought gas would erode the plastic and need something designed for gas.

You don't want to store gas in plastic. It goes bad faster.
If you use Seafoam, those cans would be good too.

I use one for my backpack stove. Works great. No DOT stamp.

You want to use the "red" fuel bottles -- the plastic on those is fluorinated like modern vehicle fuel tanks and therefore resistant to gasoline. You don't want to use a regular translucent white or transparent bottle.
