small deep freeze

looking for a small chest freezer for my office. dont have any room. would really like the bigger 7.0 cf, but i think the 5.0 or the 5.1cf is going to work better for the space i have.

not set on a brand. every store seems to have an off brand ive never heard of. sears has the kenmore.

my main concern is quiet. i havent owned a freezer in years and have forgotten how much noise they make.

would like one as quiet as a mouse, or am i crazy?

They usually are quiet as a mouse. Most don't even use a condensor fan

I've got a kenmore from sears. Can't hear it run.

The reason I got I is because in small ones it had an automatic defrost feature.

Most Chest types don't utilize ANY Fans and usually defrost is off time. Once ice builds up to s specified thickness, manual defrost it

here's a little tip, put insulation board on top lid will help keep freezer colder and not run as much. Top lids never have enough insulation.

Chest freezer do NOT have automatic defrost ! I killed one by letting the frost build up so much that it broke a tube.

Defrosting is a pain, but it needs to be done once or twice a year. You need several cooler to hold the contents. Then you have to sop up the water inside.

If it is in a closet, make sure there is adequate air flow around it. Make sure there is some ventilation in and out of the closet.

If it is sitting on carpeting, nail some 2x4 together and get it up off the ground.

We found a 4-5 cu ft non-chest freezer for my daughter while she was in college. Perfect for one person.

This just happened to mine last week. Frost built up inside the lid over a period of several decades. It became so heavy that we shut the lid and the weight of the ice destroyed the inner lid panel.

We always defrosted it annually but never knew the inside of the lid needed periodic defrosting.

I could have saved it, but my wife always hated chest style freezers so we ordered a new upright.

Check HD, Lowes or BestBuy online for "upright freezer".

I bought a small "off Brand" chest type from Lowe's after looking at them in the other normal places. Price was all about the same -- BUT Lowe's had free delivery, figured let them do the lifting!! It is quiet, mine has a hose connection for draining it when you defrost it.
