Small Engine Carb Question

My apologies if there was a better section to post this to.

I just replaced the carb on an older Mighty Mac walk behind leaf vaccum / chipper. Typical story, old nasty gas etc.

Engine in question is a Tecumseh Formula 8.0 horizontal shaft.

I ordered the china special carb from Amazon. Not surprisingly, it's not 100% exactly the same as the one it replaced. My issue is what I believe to be some sort of crankcase vent hose that connected to a ****** on the old carb near the fuel line. New carb has an extra unused ****** but its on the other side and the hose won't reach it. After rigging up the throttle successfully and reworking the choke lever (which now moves the opposite direction of the original), I said the hell with it and threw some fresh (ethanol free) gas in it. Started on the first pull.

So the questions are:

What does this hose really do?
Can I safely let it run with the hose just dangling and the port on the carb empty?

Thanks in advance!

Just a vent hose. Burning whatever comes out of that vent results in a little less pollution in the world. I am not really sure whether your ****** on the carb has the same purpose as what you are trying to hook to it. That might be a bowl vent. Which would not mean hook them to each other.

That looks like a carb for a snowblower and that ****** would be hooked to the primer bulb.

Now that I think about it the kit came with a primer bulb. I didn't give it much thought and just wrote it off as a generic part. I'd that's the primer port, do I need to somehow plug it or should I just leave it as is?

Primer bulb, huh?

Are the China carbs any good? ? $20 vs. $100 is very tempting. Any vendor better than the rest?

Pretty much every year something gets old crappy alcohol filled gasoline left in it too long. Local Walmart gas had alcohol in the low 30% range. Tested with glass hydrometer.

This one I think was a "HOOAI" I found on Amazon for $12.99. OEM carb I think was around $65.

I also recently used a Hipa brand carb on a Husqvarna string trimmer and that was an exact replica for $18 or so.

I would plug it so dirt doesn't get into the carb bowl. Or hook up the primer and use it like a snowblower.

So looking back I definitely ordered (and received) a carb for an HMS80 instead of the HM80. Whoops. I ordered another $12 one and hopefully they will let me return this one. Thanks for the help as always!

Right. If he hooked that port to the breather hose the engine would run very rich as it would pressurize the float bowl.

I have used many China carbs. All but 1 went smoothly. I had to adjust the one that didnt work right out of the box and that was for a Echo Hedge trimmer. Just make sure to get the correct one as there can be many different variations as the OP just found out.

OK, that's hilarious -- somewhere in China, there's a computer spitting out nearly random combinations of English-like syllables to use for brand names. Usually shown in ALL CAPS. (Or maybe "HOOAI" is a Chinese word or something.)

I have a cheap little Bluetooth music player I use for workouts that has the brand name "KLANGTOP". WTF? Worst name ever, but it works fine and I won't cry if I sweat on it and it croaks.

Must be the same guy that came up with "Hykolity, a California Incorperation".
Somebody posted a link to that company's Amazon link yesterday and I said it just screamed "China!" :bounce:
