Small engine projects

Anybody messing with small engines? I have a 3hp tecumseh 2 stroke and a 3.5hp briggs 4 stroke I've been wanting to throw on some bicycles. I'm trying to build them for free or really cheap. Just wondering what other stuff you guys might be building using a small engine? Feel free to post some pictures of your projects

hmm i like this thread. i got a briggs sitting in the garage waiting for a frame and wheels or some sort. hopefully ill get to it some day.

The biggest problem in the less than 5HP world is the engines are almost always vertical shaft.
And most DIY projects need horizontal shafts.

I have a 5 and 7 HP Briggs that I am rebuilding. The 5 is getting new gaskets and a carb rebuild, the 7 I'm just trying to get running.

i always thought it would be cool to use a vertical shaft motor and rig up some gears or something cool looking to transfer the power horizontal. there used to be a kid that rode around a big wheel trike that had a chainsaw motor straped to the front wheel and go cart slicks on the back two wheels.

I pulled an old craftsman chainsaw engine - no bar or chain- out of the dumpster the other day. Couldn't help myself - brought it back in to my shop gave it a shot of ether and it immediately fired. Couldn't keep it running.

Then I noticed the teeny tiny tubing used for a gas line was hardened and broken. Easy fix probably -trying to figure out something cool to make out of it. It's a pretty small one - probably had a 14 inch bar on it. Ideas

Bike motor
winch setup - probably not powerful enough
Scooter - this seems like the most likely candidate - but I don't see a need for it.

Any other ideas?

I've been pondering the same thing as I have a 3.5hp Briggs motor I pulled off my old push mower when the deck rotted out beyond repair. Trouble is its vertical shaft, only thing I could think of was as a lift engine for a small hovercraft for the kids but I'm not sure if it would be powerful enough.

working on making a power wheelbarrow, old riding mower reversed the trans you drive it standing behind it still need to add a bed, will get some pictures soon

I am currently in the process of rebuilding a 4hp horizontal shaft briggs right now. It is somewhere between a 58"-64" model. Model# 100202-0350. Its been a real pain to find parts for it but it is coming together. Been soaking the block in laquer thinner to make it look like new.(Old School trick) Everything else is getting painted fire engine red or black. I plan on using it for a go-kart for kiddos. It came off of my old Magna tiller.
