Alot of us use our garages for more than just fixing cars, but fixing anything with an engine.

Alot of people have asked questions about this as spring has sprung.. It'd be nice to have a place where we can gather other gear nuts all together to solve an issue, find parts, etc etc.

Is this a possibility?

Where's cheapest place to by spindles for a 42" Sears Craftsman mower deck, anyone?
The alloy used in them dosen't get along with the mild steel bolts and when they twist off what's a guy to do but buy new? Used Kroil on them and they won't budge.

Great idea for a new section!

yup, glad someone brought up the idea of a small engines section, i would be very very interested in this. Not too many GOOD small engine forums, but it seems like alot of folks around this site are very experienced in small engines.

It does kinda seem that we've had a bit of an increase in the number of posts regarding repair and servicing of small engines lately. I wonder if it's more of a seasonal thing though.

Not really, as the snowblower guys are busy with small engines year round, aren't they, between blowing or mowing.

Ryan, can we please have a small engine section? Or could you let us know how many responses we would need to get one, or do we need to put up a vote to get it?
Thanks D.J.

I have been working on my cars by myself since two years now and have not taken them even once to the mechanic. I try my best to resolve problems within friends, communities and online instruction manuals. I have found these http://www.automotix.net/autorepair/engine_repair_guide.html repair guides which have most of the cars instructions given in a very detailed manner - from replacing fluids, filters to complete overhauls. Should be quite handy for all.

does it run at all? im thinking it should be above 80 psi. 130 to 150 would be for a higher compression automotive engine. Are you getting pressure in the crankcase/ blowing out of the dipstick tube, or oil fill? try a shot of oil in the cylinder and check compression again, if it comes up you have bad rings/ scored cylinder wall. if not, it could be a head gasket, or valve issue. A leakdown test, however is a quick and easy way to pinpoint the problem. you obviously have a compression tester, take the "schrader valve" out of the hose and hook it up to regulated air with the engine at tdc compression stroke. Slowly bring up the pressure, and you will hear if something is not sealing.. from the crankcase "rings, piston, cylinder wall, head gasket" ,or from the intake, or exhaust
