Small floor jack for trunk

Hey guys,

I recently bought an old (1980) Merceds diesel for my new daily driver. I am sick of all the computer controlled **** in modern vehicles. I found one in amazing shape with very low miles.

Anyhow, the Mercedes from this era have the horrible jack that plugs into a hole in the side of the body. There are two holes on each side, one near each wheel. The jack is not very stable, and using these lift holes is not good for the car.

I want to keep a small, light floor jack in the truck for roadside emergencies. The car is quite heavy, about 4,000 lbs.

Any recommendations from the group?

Thanks!

Jim

Home Depot has the 1 1/2 ton aluminum floor jacks on sale for $40. I carry the HF equivalent in my vehicles and they don't take up much space.

I use them for my boat and our car(Camry). Always have a piece of heavy plywood or plate of steel in your truck to place under scissors jack. The jacks are solid,,the ground is not.

Maybe keep a bottle jack instead of a trolley jack? Takes up less space, perhaps more versatile on the road.

I would just keep a small bottle jack like dacan said, make sure you strap it down well, I restore cars and HATE when I have to fix all the bumps and bangs in the quarters from the inside out, someone doing donuts with a bottle jack and tool box bouncing around, lol..
