I am thinking of getting a small gantry crane to lift 100-700lb anyone have any references of good or bad ones?

I have the Harbor Freight gantry. I don't think I would trust it to the rated capacity but I would have no qualms about lifting your stated load with it.

northern tool has a lot of cool stuff also .I bought 50 sawzall blades for $89.95 plus a few extra blades to qualify for my free sawzall

imo for a gantry the saying go big or go home should apply. I was bidding on a huge bandsaw and looking at options. The Harbor freight ones were surprisingly not enough. i'd hate to have one and not have it tall enough or big enough some time down the line. For under 1000 I've seen good things about the hf truck mounted one with some modifications

The biggest problem with the HF gantry is width. I believe it's 7'10" or so wide. A gantry should be at least ,8'6' wide on the inside so you can straddle most trailers.

Thanks guys. I am still in the planning stages so I will look around. I may have access to some scrap too - columns and beams maybe.

Next step is to get my lathe and mill in the garage.
