If you want to remain within the confines of your garage as I do your choices are store some items in the rafters as you mentioned earlier or some form of shelving. In terms of shelving you can go with permanent, attached to the wall, or free standing. I have lived in a number of houses with smaller garages and opted for free standing. I currently have the steel wire shelving from one of the big box stores. Each set has a set of 6 shelves measuring 18x48 inches and more than 72 inches tall with the wheels. Using two sets you could daisy chain for a total of 12 feet, three sections with 4 shelves each, down your left hand wall. Let me know if you would like a photo of my set-up.

A photo would be nice... I am actually drawing up a couple of ideas now.
Since my floor is **** and will get replaced within a year I want to make things mobile. I was thinking about a long bench on casters/10-11 feet. The catch is that I think I would like to include my cast iron table. I would remove it off its current stand and use it for half of the work bench. I have some very nice heavy duty rubber coated coaster that will hold the weight. The wood top would lay over the entire length but split so a portion could be lifted off on the cast iron section when it is in use.

I seen an image of a bench that I thought some of you folks that have wood working tools might like. What a great way to save space... and makes the smaller tools much easier to use.

I am definitely going to use a tool board to hang many of my tools on the side wall. With a long bench and the tools on the wall I think I will have the majority of my items covered. I also think it will look very good. I would like to incorporate my tool box as a cabinet in the bench but... concerned about the total height with the casters and the beefed up frame. The box is 29" would need 4x4 structure and the casters/wheels are about 7".

I may also be able to set something up to lower the tools that I have in the rafters over the bench.

Just fooling around with different designs.

I still am pondering on if the large compressor is going on the side of the garage in an enclosure.

Been a while but I did end up building a very large work bench that went along the entire back wall. The electricity is now in and a few vintage lights are hanging over the bench.

I also decided that I will make a small enclosed leantoo type shelter for the compressor. The thought here is that the compressor would be very loud in such a small space. I wish I could do something with the floor but that will have to wait until next summer.

At least I can start using the garage...
