Dear colleagues!
My name is Dmitry, I live in Russia, to be precise, in the southern part of Siberia, the Altai Republic.
I built the garage myself, on my property, 3 years ago.
Modest size 5x7m, wooden frame, foam insulation, sheathed with metal inside and outside

Hi Dmitry, very cool to see another member from Russia on a English speaking forum!
You are the 3rd member from Russia (that I know of) who started a garage thread here on the Garage Journal Forum.
I am pleasantly surprised to see not all the people who live in Russia are making due with communal garages and housing.
Looks like you have your own property and a nice plot of land to put your own garage on.
Curious why you are different from other comrades who live in apartments and have separate garages away from the housing complex?
I seem to think most people from Russia, prefer living in apartment or communal housing.
I am thinking you saw a benefit from having your own land and a new modern style garage.
I am sorry to say I had the impression there weren't modern building materials available to build a modern style garage.
A few of us in the in America have little knowledge about the living standards in Siberia, but we are learning thanks to you and a few others here on the forum.
Thanks for sharing your pictures, really like your garage! ...very nice.
Are you heating your garage? ... with electric? Wood? Oil? Gas?
Evidently you have high amperage electricity added as your welder needs power.
Looks like you are re-building a Civic?
Keep the posts coming, I sure enjoy hearing how other people live and work in their garages!

Hello! Separate garages, this is basically the legacy of the USSR and they are used by the townspeople who live in apartments.
I live in a village, on a property, a plot of 35x70m, so I have the opportunity to build what I want
In Russia, there are all modern building materials, but not all can buy them, especially in the outback.
I temporarily do not have permanent garage heating, when it's cold I use a gas burner from a tank
Just yesterday, I connected a network of 380 volts, before that there were 230
civilian was not completed, then I'll write why it did not happen

Looks great, whats up in Siberia?
In Siberia, everything is good, everything is there for life, work and rest
There are roads and connections in every village!
Clean water, clean air, high mountains, fast rivers and clear lakes, fish and wild animals, Taiga

Our government does not like Japanese cars, at first they banned the import of cars from Japan and other countries at the legislative level, and then they banned the swap! All the work was done in vain, and I had to saw the Honda and sell it to pieces, all the money received for Honda went to the development of the garage.I bought myself a Subaru

leshyi... That is a great looking garage that you built! Too bad about the Honda
Thank you
Initially, I was thinking of making a small and fun car so that the wife could drive on it too, the transmission was automatic, but the authorities made their own adjustments
Yes, I cried when sawing Honda.
I wanted to buy a mechanical transmission and make it for racing, but it's very difficult to find and it costs $ 2000 + shipping from the USA. For me, it's a very big money, I could have built another garage for this amount.

My friend gave me his old Soviet car VAZ 2106.
The last 10 years he stood in his garage, and so as not to rot, he gave it to me.
I remember there were times when Soviet people stood in line for several years to buy such a car
I want to build a drift car on its base

You can now just put it in VAZ 2101-07
The transmission will be from VAZ 2106, it's very cheap and there are parts in any village shop, there are examples of how it holds 450 horses and 550 newtons, though sometimes it breaks the diff

Last week I hung up an electrical switchboard of 400 volts, today electricians arrived and my garage is connected to the network.
Now in my garage will work better, but still need to make the wires in the interior

After the screening of the film The Fast and the Furious!
In Russia, a part of the American automotive culture has firmly established itself.
As soon as thawed the asphalt, young people and not only young :) got out of the garages, and started not official race!
In connection with recent events, in particular because of Moscow's rich children, the State Duma passed a law on the criminal prosecution of the organizers of such events!
But no one was scared :) and this happens often and everywhere!

Welcome to GJ. I am curious what you do for a living? In other words what is your day job when you are not "playing" in your garage.

Thank you!It so happened that after serving in the Army, I nowhere else officially worked.
For the past 15 years I have been engaged in construction work for the tourism industry, mainly carpenters and welders.
So let's say I am one of many dead souls in Russia, or as it is now fashionable to say-Self-employed

In our region, many are engaged in the tourism industry! In the Altai is a unique nature, a very beautiful place, fishing, hunting, later I can post a photo of all this beauty!
Not a lot of photo work

When we get tired of the garage, we can go anywhere we want.
We had guests from America, we liked them very much, we arranged a tour to Mongolia for them.

leshyi, I really like your garage and the fabrication work you are doing. It is too bad about the Honda. That would have been a nice car. I also love working on cars. I am curious, did you go to school to learn welding or did you teach yourself? I also really like your rain gutter on your garage. I have thought about building a rain gutter like that, just haven't done it yet. You live in some beautiful country and I bet that water is really cold. I love your fishmouth cutter jig. Looks like you probably built it yourself. Thank you for all the nice pictures.

Thank you,I myself welding to cook, even in my childhood :) . All products made of wood are made with ax and gasoline saw, Did myself. The table is made of old electric line supports, they were in resin for many years, I cleaned them and made a table.
It looks naturally old :) The water is cold as ice, it comes from the glacier.
Nice work on your garage and the fabrication.
Awesome!!!

Thank you!

Great photos and thank you for posting! It takes a lot of skill to fit those logs together very nicely with a chainsaw :)

I am interested in the road bridge, does it use wooden beams? I was also impressed at the columns for the same bridge, I figured they would be made of concrete...but they also have a wooden exterior...so maybe they are wood also?

In fact, with a chainsaw it's easier than it seems :), in the past this work was done with one ax
The supports of the bridge are wooden, large stones stand inside the pillars :)
Крутые фотки! Cool photos! :)
Thank Stas! In Gorny-Altai beauty, come see :)
