Small garage?

Currently house shopping, when we started this I said a garage was a must. Well, we found a house we both like but the garage is about a 16x21. That's big enough to park my old car in but I'm not sure it's big enough store my tools and actually work on my car in.

Anyone have pics of their smaller garage set ups? Preferably with a car/truck in it? I'm finding a hard time getting excited about this garage.

Search single car garages. Plenty of threads or pictures. I think there is even a thread for singles

I'm on my phone and can never get the links to post here. Maybe someone else can help out.

It depends on the size of your car (and your size as well. :) ) What kind of car is it? A second question - is there room to expand the garage?

I couldn't find a thread for singles but I did find a few threads. Also found a lot of threads where the pictures wouldn't show for some reason.

It's a camaro, not the biggest car but not the smallest.

There's plenty of room to expand, money is the issue there.

Hot rod magazine has an article this month about a 1969 chevelle that was built in a single. Where there is a will there is a way.

How about one with a Camaro in it?

My garage measures 19'-4" × 19'-4" insde dimension. Sure I'd lovemore room, but this is what it is. I've got the room I need to work on it, but organization is key. I make use of shelving to keep everything I can off the floor to make floorspace. A single door would have been nice, but I put the car on dollies when I want to move it around inside. Oh yeah, I've found room for tools too.

^^nice.

It's the width that bothers me on the one we're looking at. I'm gonna call around price the turn key shop thing. I have a feeling I won't like the quotes though.

This is an odd shape?

Is this a single car garage or a double?

Which way is the 16', width or depth?

I wrenched on a few cars, including my '71 SS/RS Camaro in a single for 10+ years. Working in a small garage is all about using the space you have wisely. I traded up to a 18x24 detached garage and I'm doing a body-off resto of C3 Corvette in there. I went with a 9'6" ceiling height and I have an attic that's around 4' high, but I can store enough parts up there in plastic totes. As for the working space, the only fixed item is a workbench.....everything else is on casters (toolbox, shelves, large office file cabinets, etc.) so I can easily reconfigure the space based on what I'm doing.

This garage has a wooden work bench running down the entire side wall. I think i'd feel better about space with it removed.

My first garage had a 16x22 garage. I worked on my firebird in there. No none automotive or tool related items ever in garage taking up valuable real estate. When I built a 24x30 garage i had room to do a frame off on the firebird.

My workbench takes up half of the back wall....the other half has tool boxes. One side wall has shelving and large file cabinets.....both on casters, so I can move them if I need space. I keep the other wall open. I'd post a pic, but as soon as I got everything set in place, I decided to re-coat the floor. The garage is completely empty at the moment. Once I get everything back in, I'll update my progress build thread in the Gallary.

16x24 - The key was everything off the floor, and anything left, on wheels. Slatwall and a lot of upper storage really helps to keep things organized.

That is nice^^^^

Update to the situation, we are still looking into buying this house, but also having a 30x30 turn key built at the same time. My wife mentioned tearing down the 16x21 if we get the 30x30, but I think it's the perfect size for a detached paint booth. haha

Well it looks like we are buying this house, but we won't be moving in for at least a month..maybe 2 months. Here's a few pics of the small 16x21. It definitely needs some work/improvements but overall the structure is solid. I took these pictures the first time I looked at the house and somehow I missed that there was a sink. I only just saw it while looking at the pictures. It's not much, and I'm still wanting to do the turn key 30x30, but this may be all I have for a while.

One thing about this house that I think is awesome is that there's an actual bathroom built on to the outside of the house with toilet, sink, and shower. It's been neglected for a while and needs some lovin', but I'll definitely be using that. Apparently the husband got dirty and the wife didn't want him coming in the house like that. Sound familiar? haha

Anyway, here's the pics. It's hard to tell but right outside the window there's a lean-to build to the garage. Perfect for compressors. Oh and yeah it looks like some kids have been hanging out here while the house has been uninhabited. Left a nice mess.

Nice you can make that work. If you can't swing a new garage just yet get a shed to keep all the **** ( lawn equip, lawn furniture, plastic toys) out of your work space

Checked it out man, looks nice. I can't wait to pull my car in and see how much room i actually have. I'm starting to have a little faith.

Yep I think I can make this work. It definitely needs some repairs and improvements and I'm excited to get to work on it. That pole is scarey.. haha..

and as you can see it does have a lean-to on the back side where I can store my compressors, engine hoist, mower, and whatever else.

^^^This is behind the garage. Lots of room for a bigger shop. Plus theres a shed way in the back.

I have owned this house for 7 years and am counting the days until I can sell it. I have a 14x20 attached and a 8x16 shed for parts storage. I have made it work, but it has been a nuisance. To do it again, I would. The house suits our needs and the wife loves it. Hope to move in the next year and get more space for my hobbies.

Yeah I'm hoping the 30x30 comes sooner than later, but man having concrete for me is huge. I've been doing everything in the dirt and rocks of my front yard for years. Jacks don't roll very well outside. Plus, at the end of every evening having to gather up everything and carry to the shed *****.

]Thought I'd update, we did buy the house. I spent a day cleaning and installed a couple cheap LED lights from walmart. This is basically where it's at now..

Just enough room to get some work done..

$40 LED's are pretty bright, hope they hold up. This pic is one light on far left, one on far right, plan on sticking another in the center for rows of 3.

Needs more cleaning still. Can't wait to get started insulating and walling it up. Considering removing the wall length work bench for more room but it's very sturdy.
