I need some inspiration to build a 24' x 28' garage/shop on my lot. I just built a 3 rail fence and since then I realized how small this yard really is. It's seemed to have shrunk drastically. It's just a little over 1/4 of an acre 80' x 150'. There are quit a few trees on each side lot line and right up against the back of the house, also with a 10' chain link fence at the back. I was planning to put a garage in the very back corner, which has to be 5 feet off the lot lines. I need some inspiration because I'm to the point where I want to sell the house to get more land, but my wife hates the idea. Pictures and advice are greatly appreciated.

Here's a picture of my survey...

Yes I can come off 6th st. I've actually put a 14' welded wire gate up there. If I did a 24x30 I would have such a small driveway going to the garage, it would be tight. I also have a 16' trailer I need to put somewhere.

I think you'll be ok. My lot is 1/2 that size and I have a 22x24...sure it's tight, but do-able.
Stake out the space in the yard to get a feel for it.

So I took your advice and staked off the area where I'd like to put the shop. I parked my truck and trailer essentially inside the shop and put a 10' ladder next to them to represent the height of the walls (to my wife). I think it will work out just fine. I won't have much room for the dog to run around or have a bunch of people over but I might open the shop up and let people hang out in there. The driveway would be short and tight though, around 40' long and 28' wide, with a 14' gate only 40' from the shop.

Also, that's a city water well pump in the background, if anyone was interested. I hate it back there because of the excessive ugly 10' chain-link fence with bob-wire at the top.

I don't know where I'll park the trailer right now. With such a small driveway and our cars infront of it I have no clue. I'm kinda regretting the fence right now, but I can't have my dog chasing people anymore.
