I'd like to have a small machinist chest to organize my lathe tools better, but it has to fit into the lathe cabinet between uses. I have an old S-K 7-drawer that would work, but it's too tall. The width and depth are fine (22" and 8") but the 13" height won't work. It needs to be no more than 9 1/2" tall, but with a similar layout. If I were designing it, the chest would have the flip top 1-2" shallower and one fewer row of drawers, or maybe make the biggest full width drawer 1-2" shallower.
My S-K is pretty ratty and missing the front cover, but I'm still reluctant to amputate the bottom drawer just to make it fit. After all it is ... drum roll, please ... VINTAGE.
