Been 3d printing since November and now that it's warming up I want to start spray painting the objects. Was thinking of getting a small pop up booth to spray in but the small wagner one I'm looking at doesn't have an exhaust. Would it be as easy as making an opening and using a box fan with a filter? Or can someone suggested something more diy if you have come across anything?

I don't imagine the objects are very large.

Could you use a large cardboard box, like a washing machine is shipped in and a hose to an exhaust fan?

I suppose I could. I just like the idea of the wagner folding down small like a windshield sun cover. Just curious as I am not familiar with painting, will any overspray exit through the fan after passing the filter?

When I used to paint models in an apartment, I made a spray booth out of pink foam. I cut 4 sides out of the foam. The fifth side was a 20"x20" filter with a box fan.

I cut a hole in the top and layed an under cabinet light across the opening.

When I was done, I'd cut the tape and put the pieces in the corner of the room.

Would the pink foam hold up to spray paints? I like this idea

The accelerants would eat the pink foam if you sprayed directly on it, but they also have insulation sheets with tin foil on one side. If you put that side on the inside, it'd work.

After thinking about this a bit, I question using a box fan for spray paint. The accelerants in spray paint are flammable and I don't think the electric motor on box fans are sealed. It may be a fire risk.

Perhaps if you made the enclosure long enough and put some type of baffle in it to keep most of the spray from getting to it.

You'll also want to make sure and use the more expensive 'allergen' air filters. They flow less air, but catch more particles.

Here is what I did. Big cardboard box with a furnace filter in the back. It is a better one. I put a box fan directly in back of it. Has a very good vacuum to contain the fumes. When I look at the box fan I don't notice any paint on it. To replace I simply peal of the used filter and tape another one. Note the coat hanger pointed to by the arrow to hold parts. I can rotate the coat hanger from the top as well.

I like the big box with taped filter. The paint tents are nice for the small footprint when stored. Just need something I could use in the backyard so I don't have the garage full of fumes. I appreciate everyone's input on this
