Small Railroad grinder

Any idea how big the wheels are, 12"?

The frame is so robust a train could practiclly pass nearby and it wouldn't vibrate.

There's one just like it in a warehouse down in Tacoma but in much better shape.

Would be nice but I'd have to empty my garage to fit it in. I've burnt out countless 4.5 and 5" makitas and other angle grinders and several 1x42 belt grinders. Now my 1hp 2x42 Craftsman belt grinder is slowing down. Also killed my 3/4hp 8" bench grinder (my electrical repair guy says I'm leaning too hard on them). I have a 1hp 10" bench grinder that I often stall and have to back off so I don't burn it out, I seriously need to up my game to a 2hp 72" belt grinder (when all the ducks line up so I can afford it). In the mean time I salivate over these big machines.

Just a guess.... 440 VAC and three phase? It looks huge. Maybe 15 seconds to come up to speed and two minutes to coast down.

Sounds like you have a voltage drop issue. You might want to connect a meter up and see what the actual applied voltage is when you’re getting heavy handed on making sparks.

This sounds like good advice. I flip a lot of breakers. I'll have to check this, Thanks!
