i havent broken that many ratchets in 30 years wrenching on const eq....

Ive broken 1/4 3/8 and 1/2 craftman rp ratchets..i still have plenty of them and will keep them. They are great for there price. The worst is when the reverse and you bash ur hand.

Ive only had s o dual 80 for about a year. Havnt broke on yet im sure i will. They are a joy to use

how did you break a 1/2 Proto?

Each of us has different requirements, different things we are fussy about or let slide. Suit yourself and have some fun. For me Snapon combo wrenches are worth it. Ratchets I am ok with a lot of cheaper ones like the HF composites, but I don't care for the old Craftsman. I need smaller, smoother, less clunky, more teeth, and good fit to my hand.

I find it almost impossible to believe you broke a 1/2-inch Proto doing ANYTHING half way normal. I used my 1/2-inch Proto to change ball joints on a Ford Ranger several years ago. Had the wrong ball joint adapter and was happily cranking down on it when I realized I had cut through a good portion of the ball joint. It is a strong SOB..

i used to use the piss out of my fx80. I use mostly air tools now but for oil drain bolts or stuff that needs a 3/8 ratchet that is what I reach for. sometimes I use my craftsman but it feels like the mechanism is made of tiny boulders. I also use fll80 and a hard handle dual 80 as my main 1/4 ratchets. I would much rather use and trust my snap on ratchets to handle high torque and use than my craftsmans. that is why I bought them. I don't understand why somebody would spend the money on a fancy high tech ratchet just to use the junky one they had before?? oh well
