Can this be repaired or serviced? Fan blows but it doesn't cool It's probably as old as the house, maybe 20 years or so.

It's framed into the wall. Nothing I've found matches the same size. I rather not pull it out, reframe and refinish interior and exterior walls. It'll cool my separate 8' x 24' shop attached to garage. I'm in AZ I need it!

Thanks,
mnev

Can it be? Of course.

If you have to pay a tech to do it then probably not worth it. Do some basic checks your self.

This is one of the many reasons I don't like window a/c's built into a wall.

Couple more photos from inside and out. Nothing to take off the back. I hosed out all the back openings anyway. I blew the front coils with the air compressor. They look pretty clean. If I pull out this front piece looks like it'll just expose the fan motor and compressor.

Maybe the compressor is bad? Replaceable? Will anything I can find fit, for a unit this old?

If the compressor is replaceable, just take it to heating/cooling supply for replacement?* Any special skills needed? I'm mostly pretty handy, most plumbing repairs/install, minor electrical/wiring skills.

Thanks for the replies.

*Home Depot, Lowes have them? Last time I replaced a fan motor the trade motor store replacement was $150 more than Lowes!

The guts will pull out from the room side. The sheet metal will stay in the wall.

Check how much current (amperage) the unit is pulling when ON.
Amperage will tell you if the compressor is even running.

Window and wall units are not generally cost effective to repair. A replacement compressor is generally almost the cost of a new unit, and that's not including installation cost.

As others, probably more qualified than I have written, find out if the compressser is running. If it's not find out why.

Wash both indoor and outdoor coils with simple green and rinse well, wash air filter start unit up check for approx 20 degree temp drop.
If you don't get the temp drop and compressor is running sorry but not worth fixing get a new one.

If compressor works. If you know how. If you have proper refrigerant. You can use a saddle tap and recharge it. Otherwise, not really cost effective to save it.

Last year had to do this to a 3 year old 15K RV roof top unit that is leaky. Needs a snort annually.

Window units almost never have leaks. A piercing valve is a sure way to make one. They are only meant to be used as temporary access. You're supposed to braze in regular service ports after you recover the refrigerant with the piercing valve.

I'm well aware a saddle tap is a temporary valve for recovery. Installed it, sniffed it, it passed. This year topped off again, ran pierce valve in, sniffed, passed.

Leak is around condenser coil. May fix, may replace, may braze a service port. Camping in the south in July, AC is a necessity. Saddle tap was quick n dirty. Never said it was right.

Camping isn't camping if you have A/C. :lol_hitti

I didn't mean to sound like you personally were doing something "wrong".
