What’s up everyone. Moved a few times since my last thread. Our current house has a two car attached and one car detached in the backyard. It’s smaller than I’d like but it’s 24’ deep which lets me have a little extra workspace. I’m working on getting both garages cleaned out and better organized. Not only does my shop hold my foxbody it’s also where I do my welding. And I’m in the middle of a tear down on the car right now too. We’ll call this a before picture as it’s all I can find.
IMG_8679.JPG
Started working on a new workbench more than double the size of my old one. 9’ long 30” deep. Has a shelf for storage and the opening under the left side will hold my new toolbox whenever I’m able to get it.
IMG_9328.JPG
I’m also thinking about doing some wall mount cabinets to avoid taking up floor space with the shelves. Slowly but surely it’s all coming together. Hopefully some day I’ll have an actual nice big shop to play in lol. Lots of good ideas on this forum

Finally got some time today to work on the shop and workbench. Got my car back on the ground and out of the way and finished up the bench.
4x4 legs, 2x6/2x8 framed and decked. All lag bolted together. This thing is a tank
a13014e7d320c65aceb166ff4a4625da.jpg

Getting the decking screwed down took some effort as some of the boards were a little warped. But hey they were free and saved me a ton of money so I made them work.

Eventually I will have a full metal top on it for welding, part of the reason I built it so sturdy. Next was organizing the shop. I’m badly in need of renting a dumpster to do a full gut of our clutter. Hopefully i can make that happen in the next couple weeks if the weather cooperates. But for now it’s in much better shape. The floor was still littered in engine parts from when I broke the block on my mustang. You can see my old workbench to the right of the new one. So much more room! Haha

It’s slowly but surely coming along. Can’t wait to use the new bench

Very nice. I built a bench like that in the basement 30 years ago, still using it! Your top is better though - Mine was plywood. Mustang sure looks clean!

Much appreciated, with my 5 month old it’s become a long term project lol. I originally planned on plywood for the top but decided to use the extra lumber I had to save money. Should last me quite awhile I hope. I need to redo my light locations since I’ve moved things around and order some cabinets for better organization. It’s nice to finally get the shop cleaned up. I’ve been putting off some horseshoe art orders to get this bench finished and the shop cleaned up. I’m one of those i can’t stand to work in a dirty/cluttered environment types. After the shop is done it’s on to the main garage. The wife is after me to be able to park in the garage this winter haha

Gonna be having a light socket changed to a plug outlet so I can tidy up the wires for all my shop lights. It’s a mix of extension cords and a power strip right now that’s a little too janky for my liking. Next is a full house/declutter. I’ll have a 30 yard dumpster for two weeks come Thursday. We’ve been needing to do a purge of our junk for way too long. Hopefully I’ll get the house garage cleaned up so the wife will stop bothering me about being able to park in it this winter lol.

Started the purge today. After moving 4 times in 2 years I’ve realized I have a ton of junk that I need to just throw away. After starting to get the shop organized I decided that it was time. 30 yard dumpster got delivered last night and I’ve been at it all day. I’d say the shop is 95% cleaned out and our garage is getting close also. I’ve still got stuff to go through and organize but the junk is almost all out. The wife should be able to park in the garage by tomorrow. She’ll be happy about that I’m sure.

At this point I basically just need to finish breaking down all those cardboard boxes and then find the right spot for whatever is left.

Finished the garage cleanup. I honestly never thought I would see this day, only took us living here a year for all of our cars to fit in the garage lol.

I have a bunch of tools and car parts on the shelf next to my tool box that need to get organized and put away. But I’m gonna wait until I get my new toolbox to get that taken care of.

Just in time for winter, there’s finally room for the wife’s Jeep in the garage.

We may only be renting this house, but we are hoping to work out buying it after this next lease is up. I’m really wanting to paint the shop, white on the bottom and roof structure, and a nice gray on the pegboard, would really help with the lighting. I really need to get the shop at 100% I have a buddy wanting a horseshoe wine rack for his mom for Christmas so I need to get my to do list on the shop knocked out so i can hurry and finish his order

Picked up a nice little early Christmas present to myself today. Should really help keep the mustang as out of the way as possible in my small shop. And yes, she needs a bath badly.

Been tinkering with the idea of expanding the shop when we buy the house. Tinkered in sketchup and came up with this. Jut out in the corner where the tv is mounted will be a compressor room. This design is with the shop stretched to 15x30. But I wouldn’t mind squeezing a few more feet of width out of it. I’d actually really like to get 20’ width but I think it’ll be a bit much for our small backyard.

Just scored a nice little 32” tv and a surround system with dvd/radio for the shop from family. I was going to put my 42” in the shop but the more I looked at it it was too big for how short my ceiling is. And I may have lucked out and found a 1/4” welding top for my workbench for cheap too. Should be nice to get it all put together

Nice shop and nice fox body.
I had a ‘92 convertible that colour green, they’re fun cars to drive and work on.
Still have my ‘83 convertible that i bought during university, its time to tear it apart for some upgrades again, hasn’t been driven since 2013 when my first kid was born.

Great to see a regular sized garage. I love seeing the 5,000 sq ft shops too but working out how to fit your tools and a project car into an area under 500 sq ft is much more of a challenge!

Much appreciated. Yeah I absolutely love the color on it. Having a small shop garage definitely forces you to get creative on storage and how everything fits. I look forward to the day i get to enlarge this one and then even more to the day I have a shop atleast 40x60 but for now this gets the job done for sure. Hopefully I’ll have the tv and sound system put in place this week

Raised my lights and got a shelf put up for the tv. But I’m not happy with it so it’s gonna get taken down and redone. I like my location for the tv though. fdeb6526908face3cfa086c1672eb02a.jpgec959160d0637f77d8b2b06b8e7911dc.jpg

I’m also realizing that my old faithful Ryobi circular saw and miter saw are on borrowed time. Didn’t want to replace them but I’ve been eyeing the new 7-1/4” circular and the dual bevel sliding compound they came out with. I’ll stick with cordless for the circular saw and go with corded for the miter.

Finished the tv shelf and got everything setup. Until I find a replacement remote I may have to unplug the subwoofer, this system bumps. eaf6e2a9536544993587b147f230d390.jpg8a16895d35c91d920ac43b35cd190f79.jpgd3ac79c22b32efd948c504590c2e963d.jpg

Thanks Man. I’m working on a solution for the system controller. It won’t play dvds on a 90* angle and I don’t like it leaning like that. Going to come up with a shelf for underneath I think. Just haven’t figured out exactly how I want it yet

Think I finally got everything “done”. It may change but it’s damn good enough for now. Just in time to knock out a couple horseshoe art Christmas gifts lol. 943bb608d6d7487cc0af7117d7579581.jpg309fffb1ac21a712490f41551693fd1c.jpg5345c8a24554fafc5e04b9712c1fd2f9.jpg

I must say it’s really nice having a movie going in the background while working. And until I get a new remote for the sound system I have to leave the sub unplugged. I think it’s set at full blast.

Been awhile. Haven’t had anything special going other than picking up a block grinder a couple weeks ago and yesterday I finally got my new toolbox. It’s a 60” husky that’ll fit under my work bench in the shop. Should be able to finish getting it organized and out into the shop by the end of the weekIMG_0032.jpgIMG_0034.JPG

I’ve followed along since you first post on the thread. I like the smaller garages too since they are much more realistic.

Thank you. I look forward to one day having a nicely sized shop but for now I feel blessed that I’m even able to have this small extra garage to use as a shop space. Plus it’s kind of fun studying and planning the best way to lay it out getting optimal storage and workability out of it. I need to build a shelf along the top of one of the sidewalls so I can reclaim some floor space. Always seem to run out of room quick haha

Well I bought a few things from Harbor freight the other day. I needed to upgrade my socket trays and i really wanted one of those rubber glove box holders. And in true fashion i had to cut it up because it was as tight fitting as id like. It was only $10 so I didn’t mind if it got trashed. It ended up Turning out really well. It’ll even hold the box in upside down. 676e04b07ba038a663610d818e3849fb.jpg32e3284b20295c512c66f80260bf473f.jpg6dccfde94b71feca2c3fb4931ed0b5f7.jpg82e8bc5b3995325ee273f9e3e8422324.jpg

Pushed the new box up to the shop and got it set. Luckily my measurements were spot on as it fit darn near perfect. Did some more cleaning and rearranging and added another light. I need at least two more but will wait until I change the light sockets to 4 bank outlets. 59865bd73f7062d745d39fa73369bfde.jpgdf685c1824e4acc6c035999a52001aa0.jpg34f9ae47a08451ee81ee5063c77e3ffd.jpg
I’m planning some shelves on the upper half of the wall right here so I can get rid of the metal unit that has the crates and spare go fast goodies on it to regain some floor space. 7b10a3e7b46d6a61ee5238c7c653bd1a.jpg

Finally made enough progress on my engine stand turned welding cart where I feel it worthy of sharing.
Old engine stand that did nothing but get in the way

Still a lot of work to do but at least the frame is mostly done. Hitch pin seems to be perfect size for the rear wheel mount, just need to find a second one lol. Goal is all reused or already on hand materials aka the boss said don’t spend any money haha

Had a small amount of time to make some progress today. Finalized the rear wheel position and started making the needed changes. Unfortunately it will prevent me from being able to have a two bottle setup but i figure I’m more than a year away from getting into TIG so I can change it later when/if i need to. Wanted to make more progress today but family comes first.

Getting really tired of constantly switching from cutoff wheel to flap wheel so i may be picking up another angle grinder from HF this week. Been abusing the current one for the last 8 years and it’s still kicking so that’s enough evidence for me to get the same one.

Made the first wheel mount after sneaking back out into the shop. Andddd I hate how it turned out. So I’m gonna make the one for the other side a little differently and if it turns out more to my liking I’ll cut the first side out and redo it. Not too bummed about it, but definitely annoyed that i rushed it. But these things happen sometimes, especially when using scrap pieces to get the job done.

For those Interested in following the welding cart build I started a thread for it here
Poor Mans Welding Cart Build
https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?sh...om/forum/showthread.php?t=388272&share_type=t

Been focusing most of my shop time on that, however I started on a shelf idea to work on regaining floor space. I have a bandsaw in my basement waiting to be put into use just don’t have the room yet. Goal is to not need the shelf unit that my car parts are on and to get rid of the rolling bin unit.

Which model? After a couple years abusing one of the blue ones with the paddle switch, I ended up doing the same. I keep one with a wire wheel, one with flap discs and another with a cut off wheel. I love not having to switch back and forth all the time when I get working on a project.

Also the blue one with the paddle switch. I’m amazed at what that thing has lived through. I will get another one soonish, but it’s a luxury so it’s not on my priority list lol

For those following along the shop is soon to be no more. The option to continue living here was no more after our lease is up in December. Luckily move out date was flexible so next week we begin moving into our new house. It has a 25x26 two car garage attached that will serve as shop space as well as parking for the wifes car. It will be interesting but I will make do. Though I’ll certainly miss the shop

Got the keys to the new place today. 25x26 garage. I’m looking forward to making it my own. 2abfbedea8334bf633e04c064c66d12c.jpgd2fe80333ebde0c4ccd960c204154ef4.jpg

Starting to get the garage put together. I may have lost the shop but damn i have so much more room in here. Going to get rid of everything unnecessary before bringing it over from the shop. Just need some wall organization 8d8cd84cbed440729e39d12b9bd9ccbb.jpg2f6c3909a87fe40686550293a4afe3e3.jpg

PurpleZj that is one real nice set up..

It is an ideal time to have a clean out..

Thank you. I still have a decent amount of tools and other stuff to bring over but the goal is to keep it the least cluttered as possible. And yes it’s the perfect time. I have a 30yd dumpster in the driveway that I plan to fill haha
