Does anyone have a decent tool set they would recommend? It doesn't need to have to come in a case or anything, I just want something I can throw in the back of the Chevelle. I figured I'd add or remove some stuff from whatever set I bought so it doesn't have to be perfect. Just a few basic things: ratchet, some sockets, wrenches, etc.

If you do not need a case, you can get a kline caves bag with the zipper and build a kit with items you would need.

If you want a prefab kit. The craftsman 53 piece covers allot of basic car needs in a small package with 1/4 drive

If you need more there is a 94 pc with 3/8 and 1/4 drive

I got a proxxon kit for my car 1/4 drive it has torx and hex. But not to easy to fine in the US.

I've got a husky set I carry around. Something like 185 pieces. I also bough some screwdrivers, pliers, adjustable wrench, extensions/adapters/ujoints to go with it.

I would invest in a tool bag or portable box to put everything in, then depending on what you want to spend I would get the works to put in it.

A 17 piece craftsman screwdriver sat can be had for 20 bucks.
Home depot has a 4 piece variety set of channellock pliers for 40 bucks.(Slip joint, needle nose, cutter, and tongue and groove!)
Then sockets and wrenches and anything else you could want!

Thanks for all the replies guys. My question was answered for me a couple hours ago when a buddy showed me what he had just picked up, a tool set for the car!

I played around with it for a while and liked it. Just made my purchase. The good news is I can split the set. I'll throw the standard with some other tools in a bag for the Chevelle and the metric stuff in one for my DD, a Honda.

Can't beat that for 50 bucks.

No it is a really good deal. The evolv line is not bad. Only thing I dislike about it is that is is all 12pt. Would be nice if the standard socket were 6pt. The ratchet is pretty nice, I actually like it better then the craftsman RP ratchet.

That's good to hear. I am young and don't have a lot of tools. Everything I had I bought new and my main percentage of tools is from a 300 something Craftsman set and all are 12 point. At least I'm used to it.
