Hey Herb, love that rocking chair, very fitting. And yes i concur that worker had the perfect mobile garage. Can someone have a garage journal account for something on wheels? :)

Thanks Dubber

I was very impressed with the "shop on wheels". This guy had thought a lot about what he needed, and it is all in there for him. And, the enclosed shop is very protective of his tools from the weather, and thefts.

The rocker will sail me into the next decade I hope!!!!! Then I will trade it in for a Hover Chair, a quad cane, and portable O2. "Honey, whose turn is it to empty the bedpans?" LOL

Had a few days out on old Route 66. Visited the Oklahoma Route 66 center in Clinton, OK. I would have killed someone for the Neon Route 66 Garage sign!!
We also visited a Motorcycle Museum in Warwick, OK. It is housed in an old DX Service Station. It was fantastic!!!

Loves Old Route 66!

Yeah I sure like the neon!! I do have a neon coca cola clock in my shop that looks pretty good, but most of that stuff is pretty expensive.

Well I have spent the entire day going over your thread.
And must say that even my ADD issues couldn't get me away from the computer

Your garage is fantastic, and the organization within is very impressive.
Makes me wish I had joined the service to gain a bit of that

I had a pretty good chuckle over the cleaning and reorganizing of your Craftsman tool box because I started to sort through my tools only to create a card board box of odd tools and stuff and get 2 empty drawers in my snap-on taco tool box before loosing interest in the project and finding something else to do.
The color combo in your shop really caught my eye and your ability to redesign the use of something disguarded has been most enjoyable to watch

I will be checking back often to stay up with your adventures
Thank you for sharing

Well sir I would say that coming from someone with such impressive surroundings as yours, your comments are very kind! I thank you for reading my thread and I am highly pleased you enjoyed it.
I do have a passion for trying to take care of what I have, and to get the most I can out of it. I also really enjoy taking something from years back that is in usable condition and trying to redo it and give it a second life.
The Garage Journal has allowed me to peer into other's works, like your own, and simply be amazed at what people can do if they set their minds to it. The GJ also allows us to make lifetime friends of like interests, and that is of great value to me.
Thanks so much for reading about my little shop, and I welcome you any time.

Best Regards

Built a workbench in the shed shop today. I built it on a floating style so I would have more storage under it for my table saw and router table. I also found a couple of shelves already built and stacked them in the corner for my hand held power tools. Since I have some power now, I added a light over the bench. I am looking around for a woodworking vise to mount on the bench later. I am trying to make everything real handy and functional.

You know Herb, I retired last December and am now 62. I like to think I've been really productive getting things done since my retirement started. But you are putting me to shame. Fantastic job with the shed (and everything else), it looks great.

Herb I've been subscribed to this thread since close to day one. Just spent the last couple of hours leafing through all 400 plus posts. It is truly an amazing transformation in a fairly short time span. Your woodworking shed is the cherry on top. Just wondering are you planning on adding any type of heat to the shed? Keep your updates coming. It's an inspiration for me to at least keep my place organized and cleaned up.

After seeing what you have done to the garage the shed is no surprise!!
What a great addition to your playing field. Now the real question is
What are you going to fill all that extra space in the garage with??

Anxiously waiting

Thanks for reading the thread. Living here in NW Arkansas, we normally have about 8 months of weather we can do things outside. I will have plenty of time to use the shop during that period without worrying about heat in the building. I have left my larger tablesaw and one chop saw, a belt and disc sander, and my jointer in the garage. I have enough duplicates to continue working in the garage during cold weather.
Thanks for your very nice remarks!!

Thanks Don
I do have a little extra space now in the garage. However, I have still yet another set of power tools I have not been able to work (yet) into the shed.
I am experimenting with the contractor style quick set ups, and I want to make a chop saw stand with wings, and make some smaller stands for my belt disc sander and jointer. I also need to go and buy a planer for the shed, and most likely a compound slider chop saw. The more I push woodworking out of the garage, the more interested in it I get. Just call me an "old jack-leg carpenter"--old school--all the way.

Herb, new shop is great addition to your "play" areas.

Hi WarrenJ,
So good to hear from you again!! Yes, the "poor man's" woodshop is going to solve a lot of problems for me. I am really excited about getting it all in the way I want it. I plan on it being extremely useful and handy for my wood work.

Thanks for stopping by!!

Best Regards

Did good at the flea today!! I have been looking for a vintage Craftsman cantilever box for a long long time. I know my friend Gerard will be interested in this, as it is the era (late 60s-early 70s) that he likes. I am yet undecided on a "restro" plan. I really should try and keep it original. It is in great shape, and only needs some paint--that's it. Not sure either what tools I will keep in it. I am thinking maybe my plumbing tools. Pretty excited about this box!!!
Let me know what you think.

Best Regards
Herb Spencer

You say you picked up the box at a flea market??
Aren't those places just the best. I have picked up a ton of stuff at the "swap meets" as we call them on the west coast

Great find in fine condition. I'll bet you have a perfectly sized cubby hole just waiting for that tool box to slide in don't you

What's next

I know we have talked about your wood butchery shop and plan on working outside on the deck but have you thought about a overhang or porch roof to keep out of the sun on the hot days? I am not sure how you are orientated with the sun but it would be misery having to be in full sun

Yeah Don, I got the box pretty cheap. I think I will refinish it and use it for my plumbing tools. Thanks!!

Hi Cpt14

The doors of shed face due east, so I have a bright morning sun. But behind my garage it is totally shaded all day. The overhang would be a possibility and also a good later project!!

Thanks for reading!!

Wanted a "quick set up" miter saw arrangement. Decided on a workmate for several reasons. Folds flat, very sturdy, perfect height for me, and I had it already. Mounted the saw to the red board in a permanent manner. Put two heavy bolts through workmate into saw board and used wing nuts for speed of put up and take down. Built a little hook on tray in front for pencils, tapes, etc. I can set this up in less than 5 minutes. When not on stand, miter saw will be mounted in a similar manner to shed work bench. This is stage one of my woodworking "triangle". This miter saw, the table saw, and the router table. I will post the set up once it is done. I am striving for a start to finish set up time of only 20 minutes. But still learning from the contractors, if you get too strung out, there is always the "blue tarp".

Best Regards
Herb

Nice flea market find there Herb. She'll clean up nice. If you find a date stamped on it? Nice work on miter saw. If that one doesn't hold up there always the heavier 225 and 400 workmates someone is selling cheap. I think the 225 would work cause it lighter than the 400.

Have a good one, Gerard

Hey Gerard
I did find some numbers on the box, but it shows "5503" and I am not thinking it is that old, to be Mar of 1955. I think these came out about the same time our roller cabinets did. Somewhere about 1968-1972 maybe.
Thanks for your comments on the miter saw. It is all about speed of set up and take down. I visited with a carpenter friend here, and talked about his way of doing things. Well he showed me his stands, and he has everything right in the camper of his truck. He does not pull anything out unless he is sure he needs it. "You can spend all your time carrying **** around" was his remark on that. He says he can set up in about 15 minutes for a trim out job. I believe him, the way he has got everything organized. He has started using the Paslode nailers, no compressors, but is learning towards the Dewalt Battery nailer like I have.

Best Regards
Herb
