Looks like you're missing a critical tool in your outdoor arsenal. A Hammock. Otherwise, it looks like the perfect place to work on whatever project is at hand.

Thanks for your visit. I have really been enjoying your woodshop thread.
You have a great set up and I like what you have done. Hopefully in a couple of weeks, I will have a better "in shed" wood shop once I get rid of some things.

Thanks for stopping by

Best Regards
Herb

Your outdoor work working setup looks nice Herb! Very well thought out and organized. I like it!

Hey nice to hear from you again. Thanks, I am surely enjoying using that under the deep shade of my tree and being able to have a comfortable and easy to set up work station. It really does make my life a lot easier.

Thanks again for stopping by

Best Regards
Herb

Decided to take a day and clean up my backshop and office. Been ignoring it last winter and this spring.

Gave it an update and good clean, mopped floors, rearranged some tools and set up my office for more efficient work.

Spent most of the day going through things to pitch!! Will use the other shops to try and keep this a little cleaner from now on.

Still got my old junky WIN98 computer, and it still works, and I am still using it. I am after all Mr "LowTech".

I now have with the shed shop about 725 sq feet of shop space. Not counting outside!!!

Best Regards
Herb Spencer

Herb,
I continually admire your organization skills. When I see your shop and others here on GJ it encourages me to keep working on mine to improve it and not get complacent.

PLEASE, WILL SOMEONE DRIVE TO HERBS HOUSE AND JUST DISORANGIZE FEW THINGS AND SPRINKLE SOME SAW DUST AROUND SO WE CAN ALL FELL ALITTLE BETTER ABOUT OUR GARAGES. LMAO.

I'm calling BS on that golf club situation. Those poor neglected good clubs just sitting there in the corner like a red head step child waiting to be played with. I think that you should take the summer off and play A LOT of golf. At least at this point we could all catch up on our projects so our garages can look as good as yours.

Decided to work "inside" the shed shop today as we are having pop up showers. This really was a piece of cake. Everything was one or two steps in reach and it was a pleasure to work. Since I haven't decided on a deck as yet (length and height) I had to rig a "poor man's helper" out of a step ladder to catch my off shoots from the table saw. I am loving this set up!! I can make all the mess I want and blow it out in no time with an air gun.
I should have done this two years ago!!

Best Regards
Herb Spencer

Herb,
I really could not imagine your garage and work shop needing a clean, nice job. Every thing in its place, I love it.
Regards

Hey 1/2 cup. That backshop was getting pretty nasty. That is where I did the "great tool clean up of 2014" last winter and spring. Actually I did it because my wife told me it was beginning to smell bad in there! That prompted the scrub down and mopping, and she bought me one of those Glade air fresheners.

Thanks for visiting and the kind remarks!

Best Regards
Herb

Thanks for your visit and the nice comments. I do try and keep my place at least where I can find things. I am getting things worked out much better since I went into the shed with woodworking.

Gerard, I do like to play golf. I have played since I was in high school, and while never very good at it, I always enjoyed the game. I played a lot while I was in the Army. Mostly it was for political **** up. The commander would say "Sergeant Spencer, meet me at the golf course this afternoon". The correct answer to that was always "Sounds good to me Sir". LOL

Great to see it has worked out well for you Herb:thumbup:

Thanks 1/2 cup. It really does work well, and I am going to need a few new tools it seems. One is a portable planer. I do have access to some rough hardwood from a local supplier. He will plane it for me, but I would like having my own set up. Anytime you need new tools, well, that has to be good-----right?

Thanks for your kind words

Best Regards
Herb

Just a thought for you wood butcher shop deck but instead of a railing on one side how about a small workbench at your desired height for tool and project work. I always hate working on a project away from the bench and no where to put my tools except the ground.

After about the fourth time bending over and picking something up I improvise a platform like a trash can outside.

I always enjoy your thread and your activities that are shown here.

This is what I was building in the shed shop today. This one is primed and awaiting drying to get the green shade of mixed paint. This is for daughter's front porch. Wife has ordered two slightly smaller ones for our deck. Wife's will be done in a solid stain. They are on the phone (actually texting) trying to decide what flowers to put in them.

Fun!

Best Regards

Thanks Cpt14 for your visit.

I am hashing the deck idea around. Actually due to some slope there will be quite a bit of digging, and I don't have a lot of space between the shed and back fence. I am now thinking maybe a 36 inch stoop, and one step down from that. I don't relish the digging and placing of cap blocks under the lumber as I would have to do. I do need something in a stoop where I could set out my table saw if I need to. The bench idea interests me though.

Thanks for commenting

Herb,
The decking sounds like a good idea, I am fortunate that I have a concrete apron in front of my shed so it is a pretty simple set up for me.
I also built a small utility table on castors from offcuts that is multi functional as it can be a work bench or just as a platform to put my tools on when I am working on a project.
It is about 4ft high and I am considering making another at about 2ft high. I is store it out side most of the time.

BTW great job on the planters.

Regards.

Hi 1/2 cup

I started today framing out a small stoop and step onto my shed. I will finish it tomorrow as I go and get some decking boards. I had to do a little digging and placed two cap blocks under the weight of the stoop. I should not have any problems as the soil is clay and pretty hard.

I really liked the extension table in your photo!!

I just showed my wife a picture of the cradle AND SHE SHOUTED OUT ORDER ME ONE So Herb I may be your first customer.

LOL ----Don I am SURE you could omit the middle man and whip one up for her in no time. All you need is some 1X8s and couple of fairly straight 2X4s.
Chop saw, table saw, jig saw, and router.

The situation here is wife and daughter subscribe to Good Housekeeping, Better Homes and Gardens, Southern Living, Country Living, etc etc.

I have even built a "Craftsman Style" Rabbit Cage for my grand daughter.
(Her neighbors dog ate the rabbit however, later).

I find little "clipped out" pictures on my desk----often.

Thanks for your visit!!!! I am loving your thread Don!!!!

Best Regards
Herb

Once in a while you come across something that really works. Our lawn shed was dark at night and wife was afraid of critters in there. She wanted a light in it. I found these "Mr Beams" motion detecting lights on Amazon. I think they were around $30.00 each. I put one in the lawn shed and one in my shop shed. I love them!! They use three D cell batteries and work great. As soon as wife walks in the shed on they go. I can recommend them.

Best Regards

Just read the last two pages to catch up and as always I come away impressed. A pleasure to read, full of new ideas and inspirational, too. If you noticed, I do a lot of reading just before bed, so I can "sleep on it" and maybe come up with a way to incorporate something into my garage. Thanks for sharing!

Decided to spring for a Craftsman compound slider. I had enough Craftsman Club points to make a good dent in the price. Free shipping. Some assembly required. This is a great saw, and has laser and all the bells and whistles. I am very pleased with the results of it's cuts.

I will use this one in the shed shop, and my outside set up.

Best Regards

Slider saw continued:

The first project for the saw was a step platform for the shed shop.

I am pleased with the saw. Good blade and works very well!!

Which one is in the garage? That's a pretty sweet one for the shed.

The Delta 10 inch shown in post 445 stays in the garage. That is one that I have a 100 tooth $65.00 Freud finish blade on. It is the one I built the stand for out of a work mate. That blade is so sharp I almost cut my hand off just getting it out of it's plastic case.

Your step platform should be just the ticket Herb, well done.

With my saw blades i have been using a dial indicator to check the runout as the last one i brought, the cut was terrible. I even ended up replacing the bearings on the blade shaft in frustration but saw little improvement in the cut.
I returned the blade a recieved a replacement and have had no trouble since.

I have had total success with Freud blades, but they cost an arm and leg. They are super cool running and well balanced. I have them everywhere except my newest compound slider, and I am sure it will get one soon.

Best to you as always

The woodshed project is coming along nicely, Herb. You are such an organizational inspiration that I believe most here on GJ admire and aspire to! ( Wow, that last sentence hurt my brain to do so late at night, haha).

Herb, I have shown Mrs 1/2 Cup both yours and sean Buicks wood shops and she agrees that we should incorporate a woodshop in our Storage solution. Many thanks guys for providing that inspiration and setting the bench mark so to speak.

Yes I will give you a "go for it" on having a separate woodshop in your new build. You will be very pleased you did that. Even if I had one of those very large shops like you see on GJ, I would still want a "walled off" wood working area, with doors to the outside so I could work out there. I am totally enjoying my area, although it is small. I really do most things outside.

Nice to hear from you 1/2!!
