Typewriter stands were a fact of life up to around 1985 BC (before computers).

Thanks for your visit!

Best Regards
Herb

Hey Herb, I probably would have seen them but not realised it - I probably just thought that the typewriters were on a small table or desk...

...come to think of it, I was a lot younger when typewriters were around - I was probably way too busy checking out the typist to notice what the typewriter was on.

My son got me the ratchet for christmas and the crescent I got for myself. Thinking about ordering the speeder screwdriver seems it could be handy in certain areas.

dodge610

On the nutdrivers set, my gripe was that nothing from anywhere else seems to fit anything execept the screwdriver bits. You have the sockets and the extension from the set, but they don't work with anything you already have.
Your right on the speeder screwdriver, but I found it does not work as well as the Klien's as in for quickly taking off switch plates and removing outlets, switches, etc. To me, the tools are ok, but I don't think they would be my top drawer go to items for most jobs. I was totally upset with the sliding crescent wrench. I had it firmly on the nut, and when I twisted the wrench it
slid right off and let my right hand fall against a metal piece. I could have trash canned it right then, but did not!!
Craftsman comes up now and then with a new line, usually I like them, but I am reserving opinion on this stuff.

Thanks so very much for your comments, I appreciate them!!!

Best Regards
Herb

The civilian name for them is a typewritter stand. The military calls them a
STAND, Office Machine, metal, w/casters. That information makes little difference but thought I would throw it in.
I understand fully about the "typist". I have seen many of those. Again, the military calls him/her a "Clerk/Typist. I guess just being a plain "typist" is not good enough for the Army. I was a "Clerk/Typist" myself for a while.
That is just more information that is worthless, but again, I thought you should/would/need/ or like to know that!!

Did some changes in my back shop including retiring my old Brown 1970s bar stool. Replaced it with the new black swivel stool on casters. Changed some storage cabinets and boxes to make things more compact. I am running out of room. When that happens, just buy more stuff! Somehow it all works out.

Best Regards
Herb Spencer

I was thinking that your old brown stool looked pretty comfortable... then I looked at the new one and thought "yep, so does that".

Although I do have some fold-up chairs in my shed, I usually just sit on a plastic milk-crate.

I don't know if it's the paint-scheme or the layout or (?????) - but your place always looks very inviting.

Herb, the government has always had a unique way of naming things, especially jobs. I worked for the US Post Office for a year in my youth. My title was Temporary Indefinite Substitute Clerk/Carrier. Very clear how secure my job was. If you lasted more than 364 days they had to delete the "Indefinite" from your title. My 2-week notice came on day 350.:rocker:

I too worked for the Government in my youth (6 different times and jobs - but that's another story), in a position that was called "Seasonal Clerical Assistant".... :dunno: So when the season changed- I guess I was out. But as it was always during school holidays that didn't matter too much to me.

Herb,
Your shop looks tidy as always and the new chair looks a sure upgrade. With the floor space you have it will be nice having it on casters.

The new stool was a little pricey, but I like being able to spin and roll from one bench to the other. The stool also has arms but I don't think I will put them on as they would be in my way.

Thanks for the comments on my little shop and I do enjoy it. I don't have a mega garage, but I have all I need. I would be cramped working on vehicles, but I am too old and tired to do that work anyway. Besides, I would be too "out of the tech loop" to work on any cars or trucks past about 2005. So, I am happy with what I have, and thankful for it. One's garage and shop should be just as one likes it, and I think I am there.

Best Regards
Herb

Thanks for looking in. "Seasonal Clerical Assistant". That sounds like a rather high title to me. You could call me "seasonal" as well, because these days my brain tracks "seasonal" with each month ticking off the calendar towards that Big Rainbow Trout, that I just know is waiting for me THIS year!

I think the chair on wheels is much more convenient.

Vieux

Yes the new stool will be a good addition to my place. I like the padding in it and the back rest is perfectly suited for me. If the backrest leaned a little more I could put my feet up on the workbench and maybe take a little snooze now and then.

Thanks for the visit as always. I can recommend this stool, and it has a set of arms, but I chose not to use them. The casters are very nice. In fact, I feel rather "upgraded" in having it. I looked at a lot of them, and they are all expensive. This one was highly recommended on the site, so I went for it, and am not disappointed.

Thanks again for stopping.

Best Regards

You be careful there Herb, doing all that spinning and rolling! :willy_nil

Removing the arms was probably the right decision, I did that with the chair at my desk (at work) - after jamming my fingers between arm-rest and desk one too many times.

I'm with you when it comes to modern cars too - way too much hi-tech gadgetry for my liking. :headscrat

H (sorry, not meaning to be dis-respectful - just I've always called people whose name starts with H - "h")

You really need to get an old, comfortable, high back chair in there for that. A stool is good for bench work, but when the V8's (NASCAR in your world), F1 etc come on - you need a good, soft, high back lounge chair to REALLY settle back into. :rocker:

Just IMHO (sorry, trying to be "hip" - I didn't know what that meant either until I googled it.). - Just as an aside - "Googled" didn't exist either in the dictionary until about 10 years ago - Hang on - Am I getting old!

Just finished reading your entire thread due to my having not been scoped enough on it in the past. Updated and I am duely impressed with your place, and your building skills. I also appreciated the story of your progress from the old shed to the new one. You are a blessed and skilled guy! Thanks for your friendship and I hope to keep better tabs on you in the future!

"H" is fine!! I have had that name used many times and I am used to it. That is why I made my screen name "HSpencer". I do my sigs with "Best Regards Herb Spencer" so many here just call me Herb.

On the seat/stool I have a high back office chair in the back shop near the Beerator, so I can sit and sip and enjoy. However my grandma always told me "To Rest is To Rust" and "To Snooze is To Lose". I do my sleeping in the leather recliner in the den (after dinner).

Best Regards
Herb (or H)

These were last falls photos but this spring is on the way. This river has Trout with my name on their heads. The fishing resort dog serves as our fishing guide.

I come with a built in understanding and a very humorous caste. I also like one's "drivel" as it gives me some ideas now and then to use "later".

Gotta have your jacks in good shape. I keep brand new Blackhawk 8 ton jacks in my vehicles. I like to have several others in the shop handy. I like to keep them well maintained and tested. They sure come in handy!

Back in post 1364, what's the story on the drawers under the work bench, I really like the pull handles. And by the way have you ever considered using a bit of red in your shop.:lol_hitti

Thanks for stopping in. The drawers under the back shop bench are made from an old Queen Anne desk. They have a work top, and roll in and out from under the bench. I also have a top chest that fits on the cabinet.

Yes, I do favor a little USMC colors as well at the same colors of USA Field Artillery. Namely, red and yellow----I am sure you remember!!

Today I got this nice Columbian at the flea for $20 bucks. It is a 4" in good condition. Made in Ohio. I will soak it a couple days and restore it. I haven't decided on colors yet.

That's a nice small vice there Mr Herb. Color choice is a tough decision but I think you can't go wrong with red. We all know you got those 55 gals drums of red and gray out back. LOL.
