Hey Herb, even if that Arrow stapler doesn't work, you'll still have to keep it - it's your colour scheme.
Great pics of you and JB an the Cobra.

Hi Herb,We were so honored to have JBMatth (Matthews) visit us today. We called the daughter and grandchildren over to see the Cobra. Thanks JB for a wonderful and memorable visit!

Ps Have a safe trip JB!

Hi Herb,
Those are great pictures!!! I'm glad you and JB met up in person. I am about a third of the way through his Warthog Hidey Hole thread. I can tell you guys are just two of the nicest fellows on the planet!!! That Cobra ain't too shabby neither!!! Did you go for a ride in it? These pics have me wondering if JB is on his way to KC to pick up the John Deere tractor from his Grandfather? I guess I'll have to read the rest of his thread to find out!
Joe
Herb, it was great to meet you and your family for a very pleasant stop, great conversation, and of course the chocolate cake. Just so everyone knows I can't say Mrs. Spencer makes the best chocolate cake in the world, but it sure is the best I've ever had the pleasure of eating. Thank you and your wife again for that delicious treat.
I did make it all of the way through the trip and have started to post some of my adventures on my thread, but there is a lot to upload and I'm too far behind at work to do it all just yet. I went a total of ~3,150 miles in 9 days on the road and am very happy to be back home. I'll post the pictures I took when I get them uploaded here as well.
Spoiler alert for Joe-R, I didn't pick up the old JD tractor this trip because it is already at home and running.![]()
Lastly, there was a very troubling statement Herb made to me while visiting and that was that I was the first ever GJ'r to visit his place. For anyone traveling within a couple of hours of NW Arkansas you owe it to yourself to take that detour, it is much better in person that in the photos. (Not to knock your photo skills Herb. LOL)
JB
Herb, Saw your place on JB's post. I cant believe I missed it. Great place! thanks for sharing with the rest of us. I especially like how you built your own work benches.
Herb, you should wait until it warms up a little more. Or do what I do and wait until the afternoon to get started.

Thank you so much for visiting my thread. And thanks for the kind words. Most of my "stuff" in the shop is "self-created". And I am a huge Flea Market shopper. I continue to search for that elusive Wilton Bullet for $20.00 that is in excellent shape for restoring. That act is a Garage Journal milestone, and I think one gets some kind of certificate for accomplishing it--LOL. Hopefully I will get my certification one of these days.
Thanks for visiting
Best Regards
Herb

Looking over your updated postings on your thread, it appears you had quite an adventure which I will at this time call "Mechanic on the Fly". LOL. Looks like you have well spread out family to call on, and call in favors when you need them, and that is very good. I can't imagine having all that water in the beautiful Cobra though.
...
Your visit was sincerely appreciated and I am very pleased to have made your friendship.
It was surely an adventure and one I'll never soon forget. The sunburn is nearly gone but the exhaust burn on my calf is still very much there. I love my big family and we are spread out all over the Midwest and Southeast US making road trips pretty easy. I also have a few hundred fraternity brothers willing to lend a hand if the need arises. The water drained and dried when the sun came back out so no harm done...hopefully.
Best Regards
Herb
...Nice to see that Cobra getting driven!

I see you have been out on the hunt again Herb.
It is sure nice to be able to put your face and your name together.
Makes me feel like I know you just a little better.
Glad you passed on the antique shop, but it sure is fun thinking about those opportunities for a minute or two.
Herb, those toolboxes are sweet.
If they were mine I would perhaps do one in OD Green and the other two to match the Herb Spencer Red.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with them.
Regards
Herb, it's an age indicator when you remember those record players (with automatic changers) being high tech. Our first home had an unfinished basement that I finished on a shoestring budget. Someone gave my father a Concord reel-to-reel tape recorder that he gave to me when it stopped working. A couple of belts and vacuum tubes and it was back in service. I transferred our records to tape because our parties got a little out of hand and people would try to change songs on the records with brute force.Update
Been pretty quiet lately. We did this 1960 General Electric Record Player restore.
This belonged to wife's parents and has been sitting under one of my workbenches for 15 years. It works great after some repair and cleanup. We also had all these records with it and found a record rack at a flea market. We want it to be in the house so I built a small cabinet for it. Not bad since the entire project cost was $5.00 for the record rack. I had everything to build the cabinet from leftovers. I also ordered a 45 RPM Adaptor from Amazon at $12.99. As they say in the song: "Just take them old records off the shelf" LOL
Best Regards
Herb

Pretty cool, records still have there following and can be found real cheap.

Some of us mature adults remember Lafayette electronics stores ( and that framed rectangle hides a high-powered flat Styrofoam speaker they once sold (cheap). It used the wall cavity as it's enclosure and produced great stereo sound at the parties. Kinda like these:

Nice work on the record player Herb, I have a "modern" ('80s) turntable in the shed (not set-up) and my wife has a similar one in the house that we occasionally use (not nearly often enough).
Hey Bob, I can't say I've ever seen speakers like those - they would have been pretty cool though.![]()
Great work Herb.
I'm sure now that it's out of your shed you will have something else to put in that space.
Great job on the record player Herb. I still have all my old stereo equipment from back in the day and am rebuilding the record collection. Just bought a Joe Cocker album at a GS yesterday. You will get lots of enjoyment out of playing some old tunes on that nicely restored player.
My parents still have all their old albums and 8 tracks![]()
