We were so honored to have JBMatth (Matthews) visit us today. We called the daughter and grandchildren over to see the Cobra. Thanks JB for a wonderful and memorable visit!

Best Regards
Herb

Ps Have a safe trip JB!
Hi Herb,

Those are great pictures!!! I'm glad you and JB met up in person. I am about a third of the way through his Warthog Hidey Hole thread. I can tell you guys are just two of the nicest fellows on the planet!!! That Cobra ain't too shabby neither!!! Did you go for a ride in it? These pics have me wondering if JB is on his way to KC to pick up the John Deere tractor from his Grandfather? I guess I'll have to read the rest of his thread to find out!

Hey Herb, even if that Arrow stapler doesn't work, you'll still have to keep it - it's your colour scheme.

Great pics of you and JB an the Cobra.

Mark

Good to have you stop by. I still have not figured out the Arrow Stapler yet.
I may send it back for a replacement as it does not strike the staple correctly to get it driven in.

Thanks again!!

Best Regards

WOW! Kind words from you!! Thank you!!.. I did really enjoy JB's visit and we had a real nice talk about everything we are both doing. I think he said he was on the way to New Orleans to go to a car show. Not sure, and I haven't heard from him or seen him post as yet.

I do appreciate your visit and comments!!

Herb, it was great to meet you and your family for a very pleasant stop, great conversation, and of course the chocolate cake. Just so everyone knows I can't say Mrs. Spencer makes the best chocolate cake in the world, but it sure is the best I've ever had the pleasure of eating. Thank you and your wife again for that delicious treat.

I did make it all of the way through the trip and have started to post some of my adventures on my thread, but there is a lot to upload and I'm too far behind at work to do it all just yet. I went a total of ~3,150 miles in 9 days on the road and am very happy to be back home. I'll post the pictures I took when I get them uploaded here as well.

Spoiler alert for Joe-R, I didn't pick up the old JD tractor this trip because it is already at home and running. :)

Lastly, there was a very troubling statement Herb made to me while visiting and that was that I was the first ever GJ'r to visit his place. For anyone traveling within a couple of hours of NW Arkansas you owe it to yourself to take that detour, it is much better in person that in the photos. (Not to knock your photo skills Herb. LOL)

Looking over your updated postings on your thread, it appears you had quite an adventure which I will at this time call "Mechanic on the Fly". LOL. Looks like you have well spread out family to call on, and call in favors when you need them, and that is very good. I can't imagine having all that water in the beautiful Cobra though.
Thank you for all the kind words. I do hope you found something in my little garage to interest you. I just have things around in there that I have worked up over the years and I do love my shop time!!
Your visit was sincerely appreciated and I am very pleased to have made your friendship.

Thank you so much for visiting my thread. And thanks for the kind words. Most of my "stuff" in the shop is "self-created". And I am a huge Flea Market shopper. I continue to search for that elusive Wilton Bullet for $20.00 that is in excellent shape for restoring. That act is a Garage Journal milestone, and I think one gets some kind of certificate for accomplishing it--LOL. Hopefully I will get my certification one of these days.

Thanks for visiting

Temptation Comes knocking

The lady in the people photo (person on the far right) is selling her business, The Rustic Rehab Antiques Shop. Includes the shop, the neat little house (currently rented as a beauty shop) and the long building ((storage/workshop). Rest of folks in photo are my wife and grandkids.

Interested? Yes. Going to buy it? No, I'm too retired. Location. Oklahoma on
Grand Lake. (Fishing Paradise). I kept a travel trailer there for several years.

Haven't talked price yet. Not going to buy it. Interested, but retired.

Best Regards
Herb

Herb, you should wait until it warms up a little more. Or do what I do and wait until the afternoon to get started.

Come on, Bob. That afternoon stuff only works in Phoenix in June!

Love all the pics, Herb. I can just see JB walking around your shop dreaming of how to fill up his place. Nice to see that Cobra getting driven!

Herb,
The Rustic Rehab looks like the type of place your grand daughter could run, I think it would fit right in with her degree you would have that much more reason to visit her. You could just take the short trip out to the lake and enjoy an easy day on the water while she works the shop. Oh you could even rename it Rustic Rehab and Bait Shop.

Also I thought I'd share some of the photo's I took while visiting Herb, he can be seen here in his natural habitat posing for the camera with an empty coffee cup:
attachment.php

Here is a view of when you first walk in the garage door this is on the left:
attachment.php

Note the Cozy Craftsman Rocking Chair (Chevrolet/Texaco edition), a very rare find, the only one known to exist. :lol_hitti

Further down that wall you can't forget your tune ups and tires:
attachment.php

Then of course the Coke and Craftsman wall:
attachment.php

Everything was very clean and well placed, no need for anything to be out of place as it all had a place.

Lastly I wanted to leave y'all with this:

For those times you are working with wood and break the lead in your pencil, rather than butcher it with a knife he has installed a sharpener right on his table saw, very cleaver indeed.

It was surely an adventure and one I'll never soon forget. The sunburn is nearly gone but the exhaust burn on my calf is still very much there. I love my big family and we are spread out all over the Midwest and Southeast US making road trips pretty easy. I also have a few hundred fraternity brothers willing to lend a hand if the need arises. The water drained and dried when the sun came back out so no harm done...hopefully.

Best Regards
Herb

...Nice to see that Cobra getting driven!

And driven it did, I stopped for gas right before pulling onto our gravel road when a couple of guys my age in a Corvette commented that it was great to see a dirty Cobra, they nearly didn't believe me when I'd told them I went over 3,000 miles in the last week. Then they hurried off because anyone that would do such a thing had to be crazy. :willy_nil:eyecrazy:

My obsession with military tool boxes continues. Found one today for $10.00.
Plans to paint all three red with gray lettering.. (some indecision here). If I do them all in OD Army Green, I will do the following:

Box 1--Tool Kit General Mechanic Automotive
Box 2--Tool Kit Welders
Box 3--Tool Kit Armorer

I am liking the bright red with gray letters as it looks better on my shelves.

Best Regards
Herb

I see you have been out on the hunt again Herb.
It is sure nice to be able to put your face and your name together.
Makes me feel like I know you just a little better.

Glad you passed on the antique shop, but it sure is fun thinking about those opportunities for a minute or two.

Great to have you stop by!

Since we both retired in 2012 we have become very spoiled and protective of our "do as we please" lifestyle. (Shop/crafts/GrandKids/Porch Swing/Travel/Fish/and best of all doing "nothing". After one of our "porch swing executive sessions" we decided we don't want any further committments. However we did have a big eyebrow on the Rustic Rehab, and it would have been a great place to hang out and run.

Thanks for your continuing interest in my thread and doings.

Best Regards

Herb, those toolboxes are sweet.

If they were mine I would perhaps do one in OD Green and the other two to match the Herb Spencer Red.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with them.

1/2 Cup

Thanks as always for looking in. I bought cans of the "herb Red" paint today as well as the gray. I am hoping for three more boxes as I can find them. Something about these boxes just pleases me.

Update

Been pretty quiet lately. We did this 1960 General Electric Record Player restore.
This belonged to wife's parents and has been sitting under one of my workbenches for 15 years. It works great after some repair and cleanup. We also had all these records with it and found a record rack at a flea market. We want it to be in the house so I built a small cabinet for it. Not bad since the entire project cost was $5.00 for the record rack. I had everything to build the cabinet from leftovers. I also ordered a 45 RPM Adaptor from Amazon at $12.99. As they say in the song: "Just take them old records off the shelf" LOL

Best Regards
Herb

Herb, it's an age indicator when you remember those record players (with automatic changers) being high tech. Our first home had an unfinished basement that I finished on a shoestring budget. Someone gave my father a Concord reel-to-reel tape recorder that he gave to me when it stopped working. A couple of belts and vacuum tubes and it was back in service. I transferred our records to tape because our parties got a little out of hand and people would try to change songs on the records with brute force.

Some of us mature adults remember Lafayette electronics stores ( and that framed rectangle hides a high-powered flat Styrofoam speaker they once sold (cheap). It used the wall cavity as it's enclosure and produced great stereo sound at the parties. Kinda like these:

Nice work on the record player Herb, I have a "modern" ('80s) turntable in the shed (not set-up) and my wife has a similar one in the house that we occasionally use (not nearly often enough).

Hey Bob, I can't say I've ever seen speakers like those - they would have been pretty cool though.

Great job on the record player Herb. I still have all my old stereo equipment from back in the day and am rebuilding the record collection. Just bought a Joe Cocker album at a GS yesterday. You will get lots of enjoyment out of playing some old tunes on that nicely restored player.

Pretty cool, records still have there following and can be found real cheap.

Gerard

Thanks for stopping in. We have been scouring the fleas for a record player stand to no avail. That is why I decided to build one to suit the player. We have seen many records in all the fleas, but few stands or record racks. This may be coming back as we saw several record players both working and not working that were for sale.

Thanks again!

Great work Herb.

I'm sure now that it's out of your shed you will have something else to put in that space.

Thanks! Yes every space does count out there, but all the times I thought about throwing the thing away, I did not, and am glad now I didn't!

Thanks for your visit!!

That is rapidly changing. I saw this at Barnes and Noble the other day:

Great to have you stop by and thanks so very much for the photo. I could hardly believe it myself!! It is a "comeback" on the vinyl.

My parents still have all their old albums and 8 tracks :p

jeffmoss26

Thanks for stopping by the thread. It has been quite a while since I have seen you here, and I always enjoy your visits. When you mentioned 8 track tapes, it made me think of my 1979 Ford Thunderbird with an 8 track player and a factory built in 40 channel CB radio (Breaker 19, howsit lookin' over your shoulder good buddy?).
I am glad to hear there is still a lot of interest in "vinyl" and stereo antiques of all sorts.

Thanks again for the visit!

Couldn't leave the record player as was so we stripped off the fabric backed vinyl which was pretty worn. I went on a hunch that back in 1960 the factory would have used good material and assembled the wood case nicely. My internet data sheet showed the player had a wood case, so I knew that much about it. I would not be so sure in this day and time.
Refinished the wood case underneath and added some decor. Now it matches our cabinet. The last photo was the original condition with the worn vinyl WELL GLUED to the case! Did LOTS of sanding, three coats of stain, and two coats of poly.

Best Regards
Herb
