Couldn't let this all go by without adding my 2c worth....

My 21 year old daughter, the photographer, is mad about vinyl records, and collects them from all over the place. Her and her BF are big fans of some (and I emphasise "some" :D :) :wtf:) of the music we used to listen to back in the late 70's and early 80's (Fleetwood Mac to name just one).

And we bought her a full stereo system for her 20th which includes a record and CD player (no cassette player though).

Lyndon
Yep, still lookin' in. :hellobye:

Couldn't leave the record player as was so we stripped off the fabric backed vinyl which was pretty worn. I went on a hunch that back in 1960 the factory would have used good material and assembled the wood case nicely. My internet data sheet showed the player had a wood case, so I knew that much about it. I would not be so sure in this day and time.
Refinished the wood case underneath and added some decor. Now it matches our cabinet. The last photo was the original condition with the worn vinyl WELL GLUED to the case! Did LOTS of sanding, three coats of stain, and two coats of poly.

Best Regards
Herb

Herb, I tip my hat to you Sir, what an awesome project.

Wow Herb, I love what you've done with that record player!!! That really brings back some memories! I had one like that when I was a kid. My aunt gave me a Beatles record, life was never the same after that!!!

Thanks for stopping in! We may be creating a resurgance of the old vinyl records here. Many posters have mentioned that they still have the players and use them. I did not intend to go this far, but wife brought home a couple of records from a flea, and wanted to see if the old GE player would work. It did, and that led to more and more work to get it presentable in the house and playing all the records. We have really enjoyed it all!!

Herb

Great to hear from you. This was a nice restoration project and I really did enjoy doing it. Nothing like giving another life to a well deserving item.
Thanks so much for looking in!! I am following your own work on your thread.

Thanks a lot for your comments. The old record player was a 1960 GE and it still works perfectly. The wooden case even had dovetailed (machine cut) sides and was VERY well built.

Thanks again!

Thanks for stopping by. I haven't posted much lately as we have been doing a lot of traveling. Today I got my new Bosch Router table set up. Tomorrow it will get a work out as I am making frames for some of Granddaughters art work. I put my heavy duty Porter Cable router in the table and will be using larger profile bits on shaping the frames. I put the router table on one of my "typewriter stands" for it to be portable and store against the wall. I may later decide to build a permanent cabinet for it, but that just causes "more" woodworking stuff in my shop. So far I really like the router table (some/lots of assembly required). I am using the 1/2 inch shank bits in the PC router. Time will tell how it works out!

Thanks again for looking in.
Best Regards
Herb

So you can just fit any router under there? Was that difficult to achieve?

I presume it doesn't come with the router, just the table and router holder???? :dunno: :dunno:

Lyndon
Hmmmm, interested.:shocking:

The router mount plate is marked to fit most popular brands. It does not come with a router however, and that must be furnished by the user. I chose to mount my larger Porter Cable as it uses both 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch collets. This larger size will allow me to do more cabinet and moulding work.

Thanks for looking in!

Thanks so much for stopping in. We have indeed done a large amount of running around the country this last few weeks. We have also been doing several craft fairs, and have sold quite a bit of items on them. It has been quite enjoyable. On the 10th this month we are going on a two week trout fishing trip in the east, and will be staying at one of the resorts we like. I will be ready after that to just hang at home and get in my shop!!

Thanks for your continuing friendship!!!

Best Regards

As a fellow Legion member,(post 374), it's nice to hear from you again Herb.. Mike

Mike

Thanks for being a Legion Member!! I have served as Adjutant and Commander of Post, as well as County Commander in the last ten years. I currently work to help with Veteran's Claims, and drive Veterans to and from medical appointments as needed. The Legion is one of our most important organizations.

Sadly, we are losing so many members to age!

Thank you Herb. I am currently serving as Commander of our SAL, and have been a post member for 18 years. We are struggling as well, both losing members and current members not stopping by as much. At one time we were well attended and supported, and we are still trying to keep it alive. We are fortunate to have a great group of folks who work tirelessly to provide service and give back, but there are days when we just can't seem to find the answer.
It's so good to chat with you Herb, I've been a fan of yours all along. Mike

Hi Herb
Lost track of you for a few months. sounds like you had a good summer full of adventure.

Your router table looks like a fun tool. I have collected one for my wood shop but haven't spent any time there yet.
Let me be the first to wish you a merry Christmas and a happy fun and full new year

Don
