HS: great to see you found time to send up a smoke signal. hope you find time to post a few more good words on your thread and ours cause you are always a positive person.

hope all is well in your world. is it?

my raccoons have left me a mess, but I haven't had an issue for over a week or more now so maybe I can clean it up and mow my lawn again.

take care

Wow looks like they have done a number on your lawn. At least they did not take residence under your house as they did here! I am sure you remember the frustration I went through to fabricate a fortress to my crawl space vents and openings. I have never seen the critters do lawn damages like that. I do have the Armadillos that dig up grub worms in the lawn, and best of my efforts I can't stop them. Good luck with a spring lawn if you have those fellows around.

Thanks for the visit and pictures!! I don't seem to be on the GJ that much as I used to be, but I am going to try and get up some pictures on what I have been working on lately.

I am needing to get my shop up for some woodworking projects in Feb and start some honey do work for the house, and crafts for the wife to work on.
I also have new hardwood flooring for the dining room, kitchen, and hall to put in when I get the motivation and a son in law free for two days.

Lately, I have been enjoying some visits to the Dentist. I am getting made a lower partial plate, which involved removal of two teeth and tomorrow I go for the mould and fittings for the plate. All in all I am obstructed with things to do that I would prefer not to, but life is life and older age is just that too!!

Thanks again and thanks for thinking of me!! I will try and get on here more in the near future!!

Best Regards and Happy New Year!!

HS: I had a couple teeth pulled cause I didn't want to mess with root canals and such a few years ago and i'm going to start looking into some implants (hopefully I won't have to win the lottery to afford a couple). best of luck with your new teeth.

yep i've got hungry raccoons here in the city and maybe I should feed them instead of having them tear up my lawn.

i already have one furry critter on the payroll now that does a pretty good job keeping the tailed critters from stepping on our property (except he raccoons which i'm still trying to get her to chase). thought you might like this picture and even if you only have a few minutes to post up a few things on a few members threads please stop by and give us a few good words.

cheers

Hi, Herb! I had a bunch of dental stuff done in the last year to and it's no fun, but the outcome was pretty good: a zirconia bridge spanning 6 teeth and a crown with an abutment to fill another space turned out great. But I had to have a molar removed last month and it was one of the most aggravating and painful extractions ever. Hoping everything else is going well and the honeydo list is diminished!

Guys, shame shows on me as I am bad behind on my answering the posts, but I am back on line and will be following the threads and answering my friends and posters here on the Small Two Car Operation.
I really have not done too much but home maintenance lately, and yes I am feeling my age. We continue to make travels, as that ability will soon one day lessen with our aging.
I renewed my "Alliance" membership this month and hopefully I will be able to get back to making some occasional posts. I was blown away at the time since I last posted.
We will all dearly miss 1/2 Cup I haven't quite grasped his passing yet! He was a gem to all of us.
Thanks to all of you for not forgetting me. Yes, Drives I will be posting in YOUR thread from time to time.

Thanks
and Best Regards to all of you.

Thanks for your response. We are doing pretty well. Wife has had some ear infections that we can't seem to solve, but nothing too serious. We have been making the rounds of places we always liked to go, and just returned from staying a week at our favorite Trout fishing hole in Northeast Arkansas. We did catch quite a few.
Thanks again for your friendship. I will try much harder to follow your thread now that I have gotten back on. I like your toolbox set up.

Best Regards
Herb

Herb,
I just realized that this week 3 years ago we met in person, it seems much less than that. Take care my friend and I'll let you know if I'm in the area in the future.

HS: i'm back to bother you and hope i'm not. how's things?

I have a question for you. do you think I can make a structural 4x10 beam out of 4x4x3's with glue and a few 6 inch screws?

hope you are well and planning a fun weekend.

4X10 ft beam sounds pretty heavy and hefty, so making one like you ask depends on what it must support. If I were to try that, I would use Locktite construction glue and the heaviest screws (galvanized) that I could find.

I would prefer to buy treated (if exterior work) 2X10's and not have anymore that two well glued and screwed members creating the beam. Knowing you would probably need to sandwich some plywood between if required to make up the difference as in if you were making a header in framing.

However, this is guesses and I am not that knowledgeable and again it depends on what it supports and if someone needs to inspect it.

Hope your doing well and sorry for the delay in response to your post!

Best Regards
Herb

HS: i'm getting a few posts saying I'm on the right path with the short 4x4x3's to make beams out of them and several that are cautious.

some compare it to building ships hundreds of years ago that are still floating on the oceans.

I know you are relaxing or maybe driving around and seeing a lot of the old USA, but feel free to stop in on my thread and keep me going down the right path cause I do need more than a little help.

cheers and hope all is well in your world!!

Hi, Herb., Just checking in again. Haven't been doing much to post about this summer( too many 110 days at work to even think about going into the garage with A/C) and have been having a lot of back pain to contend with. Hoping your days are filled with doing what you like and not too many have-tos! Best wishes

Herb: I was putting up some little vises on a shelf and thought of you and the tiny Wilton vise. have you used that little 1 or 1.5 inch jaw Wilton for anything yet or found a good spot for it?

I also miss your positive posts and even your raccoon stories, but i hope the raccoons never came back.

cheers and hope all is well in your part of the world which i'm guessing is about perfect weather at this time of year.
