had a little time out in my garage today. was going to spend most of the day out there but I first had to help a neighbour he had a misfire on his Renault Clio quick fix as I had already fitted a coil pack as that had burnt out so a quick swap of the plugs and leads (I wanted to do them when I did the coil pack but the spares shop took a week to get them!!!!)

Then when I was ready to start on the garage my brother in law came round an asked me to check his car over for his mot test I popped the bonnet only to find some nice person had hit the front of his car breaking all the headlamp mounts and had pushed the bumper backing bar into one of the cooling fans so most of the afternoon was making new brackets for the headlights and refitting the bumper away from the fan.

So I only got about an hour moving boxes to clear some space I moved my car from my rented garage yesterday and I am storing it in one of the workshops at work. this gave me room to move the boxes off the floor to give me room to move my toolboxes around which I hope to have done one evening this week. Also was just reading my classic car mag and have just seen someone is importing racedeck flooring to the uk will have to see how much that will cost!!!

had a good weekend sorting out in my garage and ended up changing things around again!!! I promise this will be the last time

moved the toolboxes to the other side and put the work bench that was hidden behind the bikes to the end wall just need to refit my vice and now I can get to it I can now use it. hope this weekend to clear the bench down the left had side and to get my son to finish his bmx but its looking a lot clearer now at some point I will enclose the shelves with doors. I'm happier with it now :D its come along way so far thanks to the help and ideas from he still got a little more to do
eg

floor,
clear all workbenches
paint the walls
some more lights
doors on the shelves
complete my Scimitar project (that will clear a lot of the shelves)

yes the list goes on!!!!
here a picture as of last night

hope everyone had a good christmas and new year

got a few tools for christmas and then went shopping in the new year a man can never have too many tools

I thought it was time to pull my berretta from one of the unused paint booths at work. I got it started and drove about ½ mile down the road to the local petrol station no problem filled up and drove another ½ mile and that when it all went downhill!!! It developed a miss fire and then it just petered out and wouldn’t start. After a little hunt I found an old spark plug and tested to find I haven’t got a spark so had to leave my car at the road side which I don’t like doing a walk back to work to pick up my daily driver race home to pick up my a frame and back again towed my car home. After a little fettling I found the problem was the rotor arm which I found a old one in my garage. Next a quick test drive all was going well until I came to t junction and couldn’t get any gears and the clutch pedal went soft managed to limp home. On turning the ign lock off it fell out I knew it was loose ok to remove the panel that has the lock in you have remove the dash when I unscrewed the dash it wouldn’t move until I drop the steering column ok that only four nuts got my spanners out got my head under the dash and body twisted with my legs in the air undone the nuts and when to get myself out but couldn’t get out I was stuck!!! :willy_nil:dunno: so as the garage is attached to the house I shouted for the wife to help get me out no reply!! Ok I will sound the horn only it wanted to let out a little squeak ok another job on the list!!! Ok I’m going to have to get out on my own so twisted my legs round the handbrake lever banging my head on the dash :mad: but I did get out and went in to find the wife to see why she didn’t come out her reply was in amongst the laugher she heard the horn but thought I was testing it . Ok back to work refitted the ign lock and then onto the clutch hydraulics removed the complete system to find the slave cyl was leaking ok with the luck I’m having I think I will replace the master as well.
heres my little car in its new home

I know its a bit tight but it will go back to my other garage once I have sorted it out and got all the work done on the car

is a garage ever finished?? Or is it just me

I have today moved my toolboxes again!!! as you can see from the picture when the car is in the garage you can't open the drawers in the roll cab. I was afraid one of my kids would want a spanner for their bike open the drawer and bang wing would have to be painted. Now got to clear the worktops so I can start using them to work on (I know I have said that before and I will get to it at sometime!!)

I am having some bad luck with both mine and my wifes daily drivers. My car has an eml light that keeps coming and going and the car goes into limp mode and my wifes car keeps cutting out and won't restart for a couple of hours (the wife's needs a new ecu  ) have been told that its a common fault. I am going to buy a new car for me and get the wifes ecu fixed. As a result I had to make the decision that the carport would have to wait till next year BUT had a score at work today :bounce: they had taken down a store room in our workshop so I pick up 11 sheets of boarding and 56 4x2 planks free. When I said it would take a few days to move they let me use the company van to get it all home in one load. hope to clear the carport and then start phase 2 building walls around the carport to make a garage at the weekend:beer:

Now that is a proper garage! The before photo could have been mine! Never mind these 60' x 40' garages, we have the same kit in a 20' x 10'.

Your's is looking good now. I just find moving all the family junk takes hours, and then you look at the pile annd wonder how the hell it all accumulates! At least your family stuff looks reasonably easy to move. Wait till they grow up and they've put a tyre changer and a tyre balancer in your garage!

I know Camberley very well. My folks still live in Frimley.

had a cracking day on the carport roof and temporary wall . only got to fit a couple of support on the fence line and fill the end wall next too the shed. then I need to speak to my friend who is a roofer to get him to cover it all with felt as he will do a better job than me and it will last. Next job is to finish my Scimitar that is under the carport to free some funds so I can take the fence down and build a proper wall on footings. will post some update pictures as soon as I can

My plan is starting to work. had a good weekend on the Scimitar wet sanded the last parts. Now just got a couple of small repairs and an issue with one of the front wings it got a little wet and has blistered so hope it won't take too long. then its back to the bodyshop for the colour!! I was meant to take the up date pictures of the carport but as I was having a good day on my Scimitar's bodywork I forgot!!. I had a quote from my roofer to re-felt the carport but he wanted £2000 looks like I'm going to have to do it myself.

Right time for another change. My mum cameto methe other week to say she is ripping out her kitchen (which is newer than mine!!) and asked if I wanted her old units. So I going to replace my workbench with wall units and floor unit and continue along the back wall at the front where I can't have wall units due to the door I will continue the worktop but underneath will make a unit for my compressor and an area for my tool trolley. That should clear alot of the floor area. will keep you posted with pictures once I get started:thumbup:

work has started slowly just waiting for a corner unit from my mums kitchen. Her builder doesn't want to remove half of the units unit her new units have been made. So all has stop unit the end of August so not too long. I have a little surprise/ change to make the unit less kitchen and more workshop will show everyone when most of the units are fitted to be continued!!!!

made a little progress this weekend. I have just been away for the last couple of weeks. In that time my mums builder has pulled all the last units out so yesterday I when over to hers and collected all the base units and a couple more upper units. the units have been taken apart but the builder was thoughtful enough to label all the bits to what unit they make up. hope to have the corner unit in by the weekend I need to clear allot of space to be able to build them and fit them. Watch this space

I made a roller unit to keep my straight 6 Triumph engine on until I get around to re-building it.Also finished fitting all the base units had to make 3 metal units to complete the run. I now need to cut the tops to fit. After that I need to make a work bench strong enough to have an engine on. will post so pictures once I have downloaded them from my phone

Had a good weekend in the garage!!

finished fitting the worktops on all the base units

Then fitted a couple of the upper units

this picture was taken half way though the weekend (I know I'm slow but I'm not that slow!!!)

then cleared the shelving I built earlier in this build ready to replace it with the matching upper units. I'm not going to get rid of it but reuse it in the carport.

I also found my pictures of my engine trolley I made

Now to carry on fitting the rest of the upper units and swapping the old handles to something more garage themed

... and body twisted with my legs in the air undone the nuts and when to get myself out but couldn’t get out I was stuck!!! :willy_nil:dunno: so as the garage is attached to the house I shouted for the wife to help get me out no reply!!

Great thread! I had to come visit when you commented in mine.

I can relate to your story about being stuck. In my youth, I had a starter go out in my GMC Sprint. I was at a gas station so I pushed it out into the parking lot and borrowed their jack and some tools. The starter on that car is above the exhaust pipe and, once you unbolt it, you have to twist it just right to get it out. Well I twisted it just wrong and and it wedged with my hand behind it. I was stuck good. I tried to pull my hand free but it wasn't going to happen without losing its skin so I called for help. No one came. I finally realized that if I pushed my hand up, it loosened the starter just enough that I could hold it with my other hand and slip the stuck hand out.

I'm only halfway through your thread but really enjoying it.
