Got this at a flea market last year, forgot I had it! There are NO marks at all anywhere on it. 1 3/4" jaws. Yeah I know a chunk is broken off the bottom front but the vise still works great and is tight with no slop. It was originally black judging by the little paint that remains.

it looks like a Prentiss made vise. they might have made these for a store or some other company that put a sticker on them or had a box with their company name on it.

in any case it's an oldie with the swivel base single screw so maybe early 1900's or late 1800's. sorry to see the cast is missing a part, but as you say it works so drill a hole in a bench and put that little guy to work.

nice vise.

I think it is a Stanley. Inspect the top of the slide VERY carefully, they are usually lightly stamped in very small letters.

:+1: on the Stanley guess. The screw head is not there, but that early who can guess; but the body sure looks about right.

Also agree on the top end of the side for makings. If it has an S.W. it's Stanley Works.

Very cool, I really like the small "real" vises. I want to say Stanley too, but the screw eye is different than most stanley I have seen. :dunno: Check the top, back of the slide real well?

I will have to look over the top of the slide again. I might have missed something!

Found a stamping on the top of the slide. Not a Stanley though. faint stamping that says

Its a Pexto. Makes me even sadder that a previous owner pounded on it and broke off that chunk on the bottom. :( Vise still works great though:rocker:
