Started many many years ago when my dad converted the side yard into a work area. I wasn't old enough or competent enough to understand what it would become.

Long story short, here's where it stands today. I work on dirt bikes, and have done some pretty serious jobs in this tiny 8'x20' shop. Workbench is a sheet of plywood, ripped in half. Just got the stainless tops (free!!) Which prompted the post.

Looks like an awesome setup! I sometimes feel like my gahraj is just as narrow as we keep two cars in the place full time. Of course I can always back them out, but often I just work in the narrow space between the car and tool boxes or shelves etc. Miss riding dirt bikes, just loads of fun.

Jeez RC, cut the guy some slack! He just signed up and showed us that a guy can get a lot of satisfaction from a small work space. His location, while good to know, is not really relevant with this post.

At least he's honest!

Trying to update location now... although I'm not sure it matters where I am.

If you're just here to blog, it probably doesn't matter. If you want pertinent advice regarding local codes, practices, suppliers, advice from fellow GJ members familiar with what's going on in your area, etc than it definitely does.

Your choice. :dunno:

Nice 'palm rat' catch - when I lived in SoCal (San Diego) I once came home to one sitting on top of my stove . . .

A shop doesn't have to be big to be useful, I like the new work tops!

That is a small device I made after searching the internet and coming up empty. I wanted a simple way to switch auxiliary audio inputs - XM Radio, iPad (Spotify), and a guest's phone.

A few dollars at Orvac Electronics and a nights work - rotary switch to select input.

I like the test of taking a mechanic out of his shop - where he has access to every tool and machine he might need, and seeing if he can fix something out of his element.

I have learned a lot from having little.

Love the small shop and that you do a lot in it. I enjoy the challenge of working in a small shop.

That is no stuffed animal... I have a serious rat problem.

Wish I had a perfect solution for you. Mine was the result of changing a window and not fixing the stucco, the opening led straight into the wall between the kitchen and the bathroom . . . DOH! I used rat poison.

Now I'm in Maine in an old farmhouse and so far this year I have gotten 22 mice with traps.

I have heard of people having good results using peppermint essential oil to make rodents avoid an area.

They can get through the tiniest of holes - think size of a dime or so.

Best of luck!

This is next on my list. I need to resheet the gates at each end. When they were built, they didn't plan on sealing it up. I'll need to redo the tounge and groove with tighter tolerances to the shop floor and walls.

I'll definitely be trying ammonia, peppermint oil, and anything else I can.

I just walked into the shop tonight and there was a huge one crawling down the air compressor about 10" from my face...

Nice little space. I like the new workbench tops!

I need something like that on some of my workbenches, nothing worse than having a bolt roll off the back side then getting to search for it for the next 20 minutes...
