Here's an interesting machine from the late 1890s. It is a Smart Mortising Machine based on the Gould pattern foot powered mortiser of the time.
It came from Quebec where it was in a workshop or two for the last century.
It is in excellent condition, no cracks or welds. I think the only replacement parts are two cotter pins and a washer. The paint is black with traces of green and gold. A thorough cleaning will determine what's what.
The chisel it came with is a repurposed file. An acquaintance pointed me in the direction of someone who also has one of these and a chisel set to boot. I'll see if I can get a set made. It would be interesting to see if a small production run could be made, there are a few of these around and not a lot of chisels.
