Oh yah back in my single day's I had an attempted one night stand with some chick I picked up at the bar and lets just say nothing happened!!!
That is the worst smell I've ever had the displeasure of smelling
so her business smelled worse than harbor freight store ??

I, too, have a set of those chocks. I leave them in my truck under a hard tonneau cover. They are quite aromatic, and they smell different than that Harbor Freight odor. I have noticed it declining with age.
I never thought about posting on it here, but I'm glad I'm not the only ont to notice this.

Probably the cheap rubber offgasing.
I've noticed the smell of craftsman screwdrivers is less stinky when they are out in the cold. Than when it's warm.
I've never been to a Harbor freight to know about the smell. I've used alot of there stuff at the metalshop at school. but i've never noticed a smell from the rubber mallets.
Though the heads like to spit and go flying when your really beating on something.

I have one of these wheel chocks that I would like to use as an angular base for a small audio mixing board.
This would be located on a desk, two feet away. This isn't a "back of the truck/out in the garage" scenario.
would spaying this thing with plasti-dip be enough of a stink barrier?

Probably not. But the smell does seem to outgas given enough time. A few months sitting in a warm place often does it.

Bought an ice scraper at ACE hardware. Had a big sticker on that warned it might contain cancer causing chemicals. Smelled OK. I still won't eat it.

Wouldn't a couple blocks of wood accomplish the same thing, and do you really want to breathe fumes that even worse than the smell could give you cancer? This is one of many reasons I avoid anything from China.

Wow, this thread got restarted from 2009 (post #53) - and things haven't changed a bit.
I could use a pair of those wheel chocks, but obviously the aromatic cost is too high.

I always think HF stores smell like rubber and moth balls. Two of my favorite scents in one place!

The fomuda-smelling rubber chocks grip smooth floors better than wood chocks. The off gassing process can be accelerated by putting them in direct sunlight for a summer or five; so I've been told. I will neither confirm nor deny ownership of HF wheel chocks.

Yeah, but the poster that resurrected this thread is looking to support a mixing board, seems to me a couple milk crates, cinder blocks, or cardboard boxes could do the same without the drawbacks.

Good point RAS61. Correction: The fomunda-smelling rubber chocks isolate vibrations and grip smooth floors, desks, and mixing boards, better than wood chocks.

Ive noticed the stench of chinese tires at tractor supply, you can smell it 50 ft awayI know exactly what your saying. Almost everything that comes from HF that has any rubber in it smells like that- it's awful.
My theory is that the Chinese are disposing of their toxic waste by molding it into their rubber products, then shipping it overseas to HF and WalMart.

I occasionally get a job to machine lead bricks. A few years ago I got a wiff of my nitrile gloves after handling lead and the smell was a dead ringer for harbor freight. We also have a waste barrel in our shop for lead chips, and everytime I open it I get a straight up smell of harbor freight. That's just something to think about when we joke about lead content in their products.
