I don't know why I laughed so much at this comment.
True though, my PB Swiss screwdrivers have that nice vanilla smell... PB actually adds that scent on purpose.

I've always (50+ years) bought the offending Craftsman screwdrivers and the stink is significant when first opening a tool box that's been closed for an extended period of time (weeks).The odor was never enough of a problem for me to investigate a cure. Now GJ (via the web) has offered some remediation. I'm going to try the vinegar solution bath and wipe the handles with a little vanilla extract. My tool box will smell like cookies!
Now, how about that global warming thing?

I have a crescent #2 square drive that's 25 years old and it stinks like ****!! its green and USA made by the way. I sits by its self away from my other tools. (I know) but I just cant seem to part with it!!!!

Funny no one ever mentions their WF Husky or Kobalt screwdrivers smelling?? I have many, many, new and old Craftsman screwdrivers and only once noticed the smell because I opened my drawer and purposely stuck my nose in to see if they do indeed smell. Barely noticeable....
As so many GJ members say - Maybe you just don't use them enough!
On another note, I have new and old, Snap On, SK, Armstrong, Gearwrench, Crescent, Blackhawk, Stanley, Husky, and Craftsman screwdrivers in my drawer and they all seem to work the same. I'm fairly confident if you use the correct size and apply the correct amount of pressure, you can get the screw out without stripping it no matter what brand they are. On the other hand, I have stripped screws with my Snap On's using the same principles. Some screws just don't want to come out. I guess when "time is money" a good screwdriver tip can make a difference, but I get paid by the hour...
My favorite screwdrivers are the big green handled SK's and the round handled Blackhawks.
