I have noticed a couple small grass snakes in my wood shed attached to the garage. I do have a mouse or two now and again and just set traps and they take care of the problem.

So would you prefer snakes or mice?

I'm a little creeped out with snakes even though I've held them and then released them. I do know snakes keep the rodent population down but... seeing them slither away when I open the door well:scared:

I iive in the woods.

Heheh, just a fun post What do you guys think? Snakes, just leave them alone?

Mice...I had them once for about two weeks(detached garage) they would run right by me and it didn't bother me because I knew my traps would get them plus I got rid of the food source( dog food) they were after....when I see a snake I want to put the house up for sale

Get rid of the mice and you get rid of the snakes. Keep mouse bait out year round in bait stations.

Chipper, you're right down the road from me.

I would deal with the snakes. Mice are destructive. Mice chew on things and **** everywhere.

Much rather deal with snakes, as long as they aren't rattlesnakes.

Now if I could only teach the snakes to eat black widow spiders...

Snakes don't carry disease. Someone a few years ago died of the hanta virus after cleaning up where mice had been in WVa, of all places. I thought it was only out in the Southwest.

1: Snakes do nothing but eat and hide.

2: Mice destroy everything they touch.

It's an easy choice.

Absolutely snakes....they're harmless and you'll never see them. Mice will tear all kinds of stuff up....

Snakes are awesome and they're not a public health disaster in the making, so the choice is easy.

I scattered cotton balls soaked with mint oil in every corner of my garage & threw some in my attic. All the rats that were hanging out in there that we didn't know about moved on after that. Plus I had a nice minty fresh smelling garage for a bit.

Id rather have a snake. Snakes arent going to chew up anything and ruin it.

I hate them both but if I had to chose, probably snakes. Much easier to kill with a shovel. Then I would have neither.

I don't think Atlantic Canada has any rattlers, copperheads, wm or Corals, correct? The snakes will stay as long as there is a food source and then leave. The mice...they just want to cuddle up and get close to you. Snakes give me the willies for sure, but snakes do good work, if they aren't the poisonous kind.

Not a fan of either - wish they would just stay outside but given the choice I'd take the snakes hands down.

Either would keep my wife out of the garage. I'd choose snakes because they don't destroy stuff trying to nest everywhere.

I want a colony of bats!
I'm working on learning about white nose syndrome and how to build a proper bat house here in NE NY to get a nice colony healthy year round.

You are welcome to mine. I'm tired of cleaning the bat guano off of everything in my garage  . My garage is 40x60 and they hang out everywhere.

I had bats living in my chimney. Built a bat box out of cedar. Had it mounted to the chimney. Put nets up to keep them out of the chimney and am really hoping they take to the new box.

Well...mice piss all over the place so probably snakes. We've got rats here, I get the feeling rats are much smarter than mice. Rats don't annoy me at all and I don't think I have the haunta virus yet. I'm not talking in the house, I mean outside the house. If it's outside it's best to let nature run it's course.

While I am not fond of snakes they are better then rodents & less destructive then rats & mice so my vote is snakes as long as they are not venomous, live close to a park that has rattlers but they built 3 subdivisions between the park & me.:D

Another vote for snakes.

Mikes are terribly destructive and prolific. That's a comnination I can do without!
