Snap On 1/4 set that doesn't match anything I could find.

Seen this on marketplace and I'm tempted to get it to have a small box set but I have no clue what it's supposed to have or how old it is. Looking for a modern one instead of a collector specific one because it'd be used so I'm stuck trying to find info before I can make an offer. Looked through the catalogs from 1940-1980ish and only seen the typical sets like you see on eBay.

The part numbers have an 'M' prefix, so AFAIK it's a 'Midget' set, and is a 9/32" drive set not 1/4" drive.
How can you tell it's a 9/32? With the normal sockets I thought they look to be flank drive which would be after 9/32 stopped being made.

I'll check the catalogs for 9/32. Might be a mix of stuff too if I'm right about the hex sockets. Guy that has them just looked it up on ebay and listed it at eBay price as 1/4 so there's no telling what might be original versus thrown in the box.

Checked the catalogs again and the clutch bits would be 9/32 but the t bar is 1/4 so extension looks to be too. Box didn't change between the drives so box is still a mystery. I still think the sockets are flank drive so sometime after 1970 I think.

That box is for a pre-war refrigeration set. None of the tools inside of it are correct.

PM me if you want to trade for it.
Thanks for the info. Would've been looking around forever trying to find a box that matched so I'd know what it actually had at one point.

I don't have the set, if the sockets are in good shape and I can get it at a decent price then I will hopefully though. Wouldn't be too attached to the box itself, mainly wanting the socket set and t handle from the lot so I'll let you know if I do get it.

1/4 drive 3/16-9/16 full socket set is 1980/81 along with the 3 squares. Extension and t handle have no code but it's likely they're part of the set.

Clutch sockets are 9/32 drive.

Thanks to @bmwrd0 I now have a box to go along with the sockets. Cleaned it up and have everything in it now, gotta find a little over a dozen or so pieces eventually but it's a start.

Here's the original setup and the modern set minus the box(box listed but not available).

Also original set did come with 4" extension but it's not in the pic for some reason. Screenshot_20220523-211838.pngScreenshot_20220523-102346.png

Found 3 more sockets at $5 a piece shipped so now I'm down to 5 deep sockets(9/32,11/32,5/16,1/2,9/16), 2 shallow sockets(1/8,5/32), universal joint, 4 inch extension, thumb wheel, screwdriver socket, 6 inch flextension, and ratchet adapter.

Overall I'll be changing the set slightly compared to the original. The t bar isn't in the set but I'll be keeping one in the box and flextension will be left out. Never seen a use for one really and the only one I've had in the shop before lasted about a day(over torqued and fell apart). Ratchet adapter is another one of the things that is cool but I've not seen any necessity to having one, only use the 1/2 and 3/4 for torqometres and breakers if I don't want to carry the ratchet out too.

Probably going to post in the wanted category to see about finding the bits still needed at some point. Just went through my extra stuff and I have about 20 sockets and 3 wrenches all snap on that I'm wanting to get rid of soon(plus a box of sockets and a box of wrenches misc brands mainly vintage). Figured I might be able to make some trades and get some stuff out of the way while getting this box done.

Here's the box now. Ended up burning some money on the rest of the sockets and made a trade for the 4 inch extension and universal joint. Already decided to exclude the flextension but still trying to figure out if the thumb wheel and ratchet adapter are worth messing with. Also still need the screwdriver socket and 2 shallow sockets(1/8, 5/32).

Added the 1/4-3/8 adapter and currently thinking about adding 1/8 and 5/32 deep sockets. Only thing would be it'd have to be either the two deep sockets or the thumb wheel and ratchet adapter due to space.

Anybody ever use a 1/4 thumb wheel or ratchet adapter?
