This is a 1970 Snap-On tool catalog .pdf, 50th Anniversary edition, scanned completely front to back. 156 pages of vintage Snap-On goodness. Lots of line drawn tools bathed in fields of bright red. You can read it online or download the whole thing on your computer. It is a little bigger than the other catalogs. 61 MB.

Also, I've started an Epstein's Blog called, "The Daily Dispatch". Everyday I post something new that I've put online. I will always alert you guys about the big deals, but this is more for the small stuff.

Enjoy!

Thanks Jori,
That was the year I got out of the Navy and purchased the Snap-on 5055-GS-B Apprentice Tool Set on page 24, to work on my newly acquired '47 FL Harley.
At the time Snap-on had a distribution center in Latham, NY, and you could purchase everything in the catalog over-the-counter. Just a few years ago I threw out my receipts for the set and all I purchased subsequent over the following few years.
Eventually I worked up to the 5168-GS-B Mechanics Service Set on the back cover of the catalog. I still have them all, and they've served me well.
For those of you my age, 64, you know that prices have escalated over ten-fold. Even then they were "Cadillac" prices.
Starting in 1976, all my auto service was performed by my BMW dealer, and the tools were just used for home repairs etc. Three years ago I started collecting tools again so that I could pull wrenches after a long hiatus. I'm no longer the Snap-on snob that I was, and now have a good bit of SK and Craftsman metrics to round out my collection.
That old catalog really brings back memories.

Are they really escalated prices when you take inflation into account?

When someone starts talking about how stuff was priced "so low back in the good old days" I like to check it with an inflation calculator and see if that really holds true. A lot of the times it does not.
