Snap-On 84" epiq

I recently got a quote for an 84" epiq with power cab and power top. I was looking for opinions on the price. The box started at 18k. The discounts were 2k (customer loyalty for using the same dealer), 1,600 (EC rebate), and 5k for a trade-in. So, basically I am down to low 9k, but I believe a little over 10k because of tax. Does this sound like a good deal? I feel like I can get some more money off, but maybe I am wrong.

The last time I was on the Rock N Roll Cab truck my quote on an 84" Epiq with standard bedliner top got all the way down into the $8500 range plus my dealer was going to give me $3000 to $3500 for my existing KRL1001.

I don't see the advantage of the power drawer. All it is is a drawer with shelves on it to hang your power tools on. They should have a way to mount all your battery chargers in the drawer so that you can conveniently reach in and click your battery on the charger. Even better would be able to click the whole tool into a charger.

Is it possible for a non professional to work a good deal for a box only from a Snap-On franchise?

So, I agree that setting your price point and then working to it is the way to go. These guys have a lot of margin to wiggle with, but you still want them to make a living. Come up with a scenario that works for your Snap On guy and you as well, and work it.

For instance, if you can pay up front for the box (don't know what an EC rebate is but it may be credit?), you should be able to lower the price further, as your dealer can use your payment to offset some other carrying costs, even if you haggle hard.

For NotOrganized, I have been pro and non pro and got good deals both times. Avoiding credit and paying cash is the biggest motivator. If you walk a box off the truck free and clear and the dealer makes a smaller profit, he's okay with the knowledge he'll never have to repo/chase you/miss a payment cause you missed a payment/etc. The key for me getting good deals off the truck is paying for everything I buy when I buy it, and reminding the dealer that he'll have my cash to use immediately.

After mentioning all the above, I wan't to mention that you need to leave some meat on the bone for your dealer. They'll take care of you if you do, whether you're a pro or a surprise amateur who got on the truck and spent a bunch of cash. If they don't they shouldn't be a franchisee.

As for power drawer, make your own in any drawer/box you like, buy the nylon chain and custom make the track tray.
I done a couple for friends and including external socket bar with USB (which they wanted plus made easy junction and hidden cable entry) it no more than 120bucks parts, quite time consuming but no over special tools skills needed .
I don't use power drawers as prefer batts charging on power shelf as better ventilation thus lower cell temps .

Well first off, you have to finance it to get the ec credit rebate, but it is usually like 30-90 days same as cash, so u finance, get the rebate, and pay it off interest free. The power top and the power drawer add a good chunk to the price, so if you take that off, your probably closer to chrisnazzy's quote. The power drawer changed, it isn't the full height drawer with shelves anymore, that was called the power bank, that is done and gone. Now it is a deep drawer in the center of the narrow bank, has power for your chargers, also has a rack you can install to hang power tools in, but you can leave it out and have a normal drawer. I also don't know why snap on still shows the boxes on their website with the powerbank configuration, they are no more.

I would also suggest if box is going against a wall with outlets or if a hutch is in your future I would not buy the power top. Same as the power house, if your doing a hutch down the road the powerhouse is redundant, IMO As far as spending money on power drawer, if your okay with putting your chargers on top of your box, or in the hutch than I would rather have that space for other tool storage.

You can make your own power box for way less then made up by Snapon. Then get the epiq at a better price. As was stated above the cost is way less and then maybe 1/2 day or so to rig it up. There are a couple of vids on youtube on how to make your own. If I remember correctly one of the vids even stated the part numbers for all that you need. The worst part is drilling a hole in your brand new box...HAHA!!

I’d rather not drill holes in a new box. I wouldn’t buy one used that had that done either.

Different dealers have different buying power. My quote an 84 with power top and hutch was 9500 with no trade in

yeah , that is the going price around here, I bought mine last summer and my dealer has sold three or four 84"s in the last three months.

I got my epiq 84 with power top and all long drawers and a power drawer for $5015.00 It was originally 17k but i traded in a master series rollcab and a vantage ultra scan tool .

That is a awesome toolbox and it is worth every penny. So unless your snapon guy is a **** and overcharges then im sure the price he quoted you on is not too high. The Epiq 84 is such a awesome box everything else will seem like junk after you own a epiq rollcab .
Though i can tell you this Mac Tools just came out with a new box with keyfob remote lock to compete with snapons remote lock. I think mac tools has really cool toolboxes . I never owned one but always wanted one.

My 1st thought was the price seems high, but I haven't kept up with the Epiq's since I got mine.

I have an 84" triple bank/all drawers with powertop, was $5000 plus a 67" Macsimizer I paid $3000 for. New in May '11. Looks like they may not even offer my configuration any more.

Very pleased with the toolbox but I do have some rust on the front lower edge nearest the floor.

I forget the exact number of the center because the sticker came off, but its a KRL and it's 55" long and 30" deep. It has 2 side boxes attached (krl1011apbo and krl1015b). Also, yes it is paid for. I paid 4k a few years ago for it off a friend, which I know was really cheap. It is worth alot more than that. He is going to give me 5k for trade, which i am fine with.

power drawer is different. the charger set in the bottom on one side and the tools set in holders on the right side, i have one in my locker and its a huge space saver.

Sounds like an excellent trade and decent deal for the new box. Ive always gotten exactly what I paid for a box on trade in value the next go 'round.

The power cab / drawer -- either way is nice, IMO. I know the cab version is no longer made, so it will be the drawer on a new box. Power inside to store / charge everything while also storing the tools in racks, which is a better way than the old pile everything jumbled into one drawer laying flat. But ultimately, it's all personal preference. Either you like it or you don't....my opinions aren't spending your money.....

I think your getting a fair deal, of course you could get a better deal without a trade, but its not always easy for an individual to sell a $ 5000 toolbox outright. You could save $1500-2000 if you didn't get power top and power drawer, BUT if those options are what you want , get them or you will be kicking yourself later. Now you just got to decide what color ? Lol

On the power top idea: I'm definitely for getting it whether you have a hutch or not, and regardless of proximity to wall outlets. The built in outlets are nice and clean compared to extension cords / splitters. I find I use the outlets on the power top to power all the small stuff - radio, cell phone charger, laptop, rechargeable lights - and then all power tools chargers are inside the box....but, again, personal preference.....

I recently got on the tool box truck for the first time. In my case, his price was nowhere near as good as my dealer's. He have me the whole "This is such a great deal!" spiel, and my dealer and I just looked at each other. The only benefit he offered was no charge drawer customization. (size, quantity). But I don't need that.

I got my KRL1056 for $2200 back in 1999. The list price at the time was $3300. The only stipulation was the dealer wanted the transaction off the books. Cash only and no receipt. It was pretty scary handing the guy the cash and watching him drive away.

I will not get the box for about 8 weeks because of the draw configuration and the paint, which is gun metal with clear coat.
