snap on and bad chrome on brand new tool

I bought this set a couple of weeks ago,


And used the long ratchet ( 3/8 ) and cleaned it after i finished with nothing more than a peice of towel and wd40 and the chrome has just started rolling off.



Has anybody here experianced this, as a user of snappy tools for over 28 years ive never heard or seen such a thing

That should be an easy warranty, especially if it's leaving sharp edges. Sadly, USA chrome isn't what it use to be.

Sometimes in manufacturing stuff goes wrong. Sure you'll have no problem getting it replaced.

I've had it happen on a wrench a couple years ago, took it back to the truck and the driver replaced it no questions asked.

In my 30+ years of owning and using SO tool, I've seen a few lately regarding chrome flaking off recently acquired SO tools.

Probably due to the tree huggers pushing the EPA to prohibit or ban chemicals used to plate chrome.

Take it back, should be easily replaced under warranty.

I have a 3/8 in bent handle flex head SO ratchet I bought in 1980 for high school auto shop and still works great today. I just cleaned and greased the insides recently so it's smooth. I just bought the dual 80 version of the exact ratchet several months ago and the finish looks thinner than the old one. I'm just guessing it was due to the technological advances in chrome plating over 36 years.

Reach, torque. I have one. This thing is awesome for front engine work, belts and pulleys. Awesome.

Snap On doesn't typically make goofy **** without some market research behind it. My guess is they built it for the exact use I use mine for.

Sorry to hear about the Chrome. That is a nice Set. What Part number is that set anyway?

I consider them mostly for reach. In spots were you have room for the swing, you can really snake them in places. The 3/8" is awesome for serp belt tensioners.

I thought I saw a flex head that length. Not sure but if so I want it. I have the long one as well. I'm waiting for a bogo on the 1/4 inch one

Same here in Holland. It's becoming increasingly difficult to get things re chromed due to environmental laws.

Specialist companies few and far between with high prices and expensive setups.

i love snapon dont get me wrong, especialy their ratchets but in the last year or so iv noticed that many tools on special have a very high fault rate, i have a thiery that they make a batch or 2 cheaper and then nock them out on special, bold statement i know and i hope im wrong so if anyone knows better please do tell me.

my reason is that the the only snapon tools iv ever had fail (when not being abused) or that iv been less than satisfied with have been specials, and most things iv brought on special havent been as good as non specials, i know many people who share ths experiance. food for thought or bs?

I'd take a Snap On tool with flaky chrome over anything from HF all day every day.

You better keep that to yourself you tool abusing monster... I have a bucket for each. The snap on one is currently the fullest since I don't qualify for truck service and am nervous about sending in that much value with uncertain results, not sure if my fear is justified, I just haven't tried it yet. Craftsman is still the easiest bucket to fix, although it accumulates slowly anymore due to me not liking what I get back.
