snap-on and eBay as a seller

I was very careful with the content of my listings on eBay for some used Snap-On stuff I had.

Listed a few items and all was going well. But on the fifth day, the 1/2" deep impact sockets were not getting the views I thought they should.

Everything was listed as 'Snap On'. These are used tools and listed as such, no mention of warranty. No copied text or pictures, just simple descriptions. I had listings pulled a couple of years ago when I copied the list of vehicles a brake tool worked on. So knew not to do that.

On the fifth day I added 'Snap-On' to the title. Note the hyphen.
Within 24 hours ALL the listings were pulled at Snap-On's request. Even the one's without the hyphen.

Any experience out there that would confirm my suspicion that the '-' did it?

I've sent an email to snap on's legal eagles, but don't expect a reply as they didn't reply to the first one. And, both were/are polite and professional, no rants and raves. I'll wait the mandated 7 days and contact eBay to see where I go from here, but would like input from this community.

Hm, that's interesting. I've never included the hyphen when listing any Snap On tools (I always write the name as 'Snap On'). I've never had any issues with th way I was doing it.
That's really rediculous if that's all it took to set of the weasles
Thanks for the heads up though.

just keep re-list them. some day, ebay would be tired of Snap On, and tell them **** off.

I sold some Snappy items on Flea Bay back in late April. I just checked how I listed them, and I had used the hyphen between Snap and On. Mine were not pulled. But Flea Bay has become very very fussy lately, and I may not be listing much more there because of their insane policies. I wish it were like it was years ago when it started.

They would likely suspend your account if you blatantly ignored their requests. I'm sure they mentioned that in their notifications to him.

The first thing that came to mind was that he mentioned the warranty stuff and that's why they pulled them. But that doesn't seem to be the case here.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say "Snap-On" with the hyphen is a registered trademark and unauthorized use is prohibited, while "Snap On" without the hyphen is not registered and subject to anyone's use at will. Wonder what would happen is someone used "SNAP-ON" or "SNAP ON" in the title......
I'm not a lawyer, either......
Is it just another small ste down the path of squeezing out the mom and pop sellers on Ebay?

Surely that's not why. If that's the case, you wouldn't be able to put any brand name in any title.

Hmmm....I just looked back through my recent auctions. The few Snap-On items had it written as Snap-On in the title.

Did you mention the Snap-On lifetime warranty in the auctions? The only one I had removed was because I mentioned the warranty.

I'm more sick of the people saying "Made by Snap ON" or just "snap on" in their titles to get more hits. The made by Snap on is the latest keyword spam I'm noticing. If it's not marked Snap on then they shouldn't mention it IMO.

don't forget ebay makes money on the juice from the seller not the buyer.

ebay pulled my account along with the pp. I just use my wife's. there are still my cousin, uncle, etc.

you must have put something in there that was copyrighted or like previous member mentioned about the warranty stuff.
i know if you copy and paste from the website that ebay will shut you down.
I had some s-k stuff a couple of years ago that was removed because I copied straight from their page, i changed a few words around and they let it go.
with all the fee changes you figure ebay would want more people selling instead of pulling auctions.

oh guys try and sell a superbowl ticket. One of my buddies from florida mailed me a ticket a few years back that one of his big bosses ( key west club owner ) gave him.
since the game was not in florida he could only sell it for face value.
so i ended up selling it for him. well his stupid azz logged into my account while he was in florida and ebay went off on me like i had just committed the worst offense in the world. it had already sold that day and the ticket had been mailed out. they held the money for a month before they let the payment go through. the guy that bought it was thrilled to death and left awesome feedback, but man it took forever to get ebay to leave me alone. i will never do that again.

No mention of warranty, not sold as new, nothing copied from snap on literature or web site.

And, of the 6 listing I had up, I put the '-' in only one, just to try to increase hits.

But they pulled all of them.

Just a note: eBay doesn't police these, they only react to notices from copywrite owners. So we should all blame Snappy, not eBay as they just have to follow the stupid law the folks in D.C. wrote.

snap on does its share, but ebay will pul items if they see copyright violations.
there is only one guy in snap on that is in charge of that **** and he does not have any employees. so ebay does pull items at their discretion.

It's very possible that they pulled them without justification. They could be in the wrong, but they have all the power in this scenario.

They send you an email when they end your auction. Did it have any contact info for someone who could clarify why they were pulled?

Ebay would be even stupider than it already is , if you couldn't say "Ford" when selling a "Sporty car that has a horse name" , or the like...

Just MBA political correctness...and it's as much Snap-Ons fault as Ebay's...

on that note how much $$$$$$$ does snapon have to pay for laywers to stop people selling their high $$$$$ tools on ebay
when they want people to buy them NEW at retail

and if you think snapon is bad look at the RIAA
