I've seen the SO display on 2 different trucks showing off this newer tool. I was doing a Google search and saw the Matco branded ones. I did a search here on GJ and no one has posted about either brands tool.
The videos from each company use the tool on the exact same long *** stud on nearly the same domestic engine.

Snap On doesn't have a picture of the tool on their website so here's a link with pics:

Matco (if you look at the bottom of the page you see a link to the SAE kit:

Seems obvious enough.

Now, what nimblewagon puts pliers right on threads when there's a smooth shank on the bolt?
Both mfgrs put out the same scripted section in their video. :dunno:

Yup, they both look to be the same. The Snap-On set has a nicer looking case IMHO, but the price difference isn't worth a blow-mold case with the Snap-On logo.

Metric: Matco $99.95/SO $129
SAE: Matco $110.95/SO $129

The real questions are:

Who is the OEM for either set, so it can be purchased directly, even cheaper than from either truck?

What does this tool accomplish that the double-nut trick does not?

That's an insane price. Do these young neewbies not know about double nutting for the install and removal of studs?

And why does the first tool not work for both install and removal?

Waste of money

I have the OTC 6986 & 6987.
No issues (and that's coming from a Snap-on guy).

Been doing it for years with two nuts, I don't see the need for this tool. This looks like a solution waiting for a problem.
