Got a text from my Snappy dealer today (he's at a Snappy tool show in Vegas) and he said the president of the company announced that the "USA" stamp will be coming back to the ratchets. Dealer said he got a standing o!

Awesome! I'm VERY happy.

Looks like they finally figured out what time of day it is.

Good deal.

(And they had better not try any ******** that represents it as a Made in USA product when it isn't!)

Good to hear ... will they exchange non-stamped ratchets for stamped ones?

LOL, I texted back I need to "warranty" a few dozen dual 80's

No reply, ha ha

I think a couple of my dual 80's are the first generation that they do replace now so I may get a couple newins with the USA stamp.

I think the GJ had a huge part but that's just my opinion. I think this forum is watched more than people think by companies.

Sweet, it makes me feel better even about all the ones I have that aren't marked USA, strange as that seems. The ratchets are awesome glad to see they will be marked USA again!

I guess the plan to develop "American's Enemies" market didn't pan out for Snap On.

I will believe it when I see it

And while they are at it they should include their pliers, cutters, crimpers and retaining ring pliers too

I wonder if any literature will be provided by the company it would be great to have something in writing maybe an announcement or press release. You just made my year! That missing USA was a hard pill to swallow.

There was a standing ovation when the announcement was made. It will be several months before the USA marked ones make it to the trucks. The production change should begin shortly.

It's funny... a lot of us have been regularly vocal about how important it is to support US manufacturing, and also spread the word to others about it.

I've seen a lot of folks posting about how it's pointless, been discussed too many times for their liking, etc., but it looks like they were flat out wrong.

It DOES matter to voice your displeasure, if not, how will the company ever know that they are doing something against their customer base's wishes?

Even worse, if you don't speak up, the companies assume that everyone is totally cool with it, and start doing it to all their products.

Additionally, when asked about customer response to the removal of the USA markings on tools, I've seen dealers here say that their customers "don't care", or "never say anything about it", or "only a couple customers care" (not exact quotes, but close enough). Well, obviously that is not true. The customers do care, and they're caring loudly enough for corporate to notice.

I'm not saying that the dealers here weren't being truthful or were being ignorant. They very well may have heard next to nothing from their customers, but I think it's for a different reason. IMO, most people are too polite to go to a tool dealer they have a rapport with and hope to get good deals/service from, and start complaining about the markings on the tools.

I know that when I go on the Snap-on truck, it's a happy experience, and I don't want to sour it by griping to my dealer about how angry I am that they removed the USA marking from some tools. That's why I'm not very vocal to my Snap-on dealer about it, but I am very vocal everywhere else.

Correct, just one has "proof" clearly stamped on the back. I noticed on the dual 80's face plate that it say "patent pend." might that have anything to do with the absence of the "USA"?

If i remember correctly its only the 1/2" drive they were allowing a swap on due to screw failure.

I was very disappointed when I got my set and they had no USA stamp on them. Might be working them extra hard this next semester depending on when the stamp comes back... :D

I guess it depends on the dealer and the relationship you have. Mine is super cool more like a friend than a dealer and I break his balls constantly about the COO stuff. I admit I do sometimes buy non USA stuff but not if I have a choice. Example I wanted a seal remover/installer and it's only available in Blue Point taiwan made. I wanted the tool and there was no US made equivalent so I bought it.
My rule is if a tool has a US equivalent I pass on import stuff unless I can't then if I absolutely can't get along without it I'll buy it.

Anyway I think this is a great announcement from SO and I'm definitely going to email a thank you letter.

That is 2 companies switching back to USA in a week. Hopefully more of this to come in the near future.
I think they are maybe realizing the sudden increase in tools sale was everyone buying up old stock before import stuff hit the self.

What is the other company? This is really pretty good news, considering the alternatives. Craftsman is going downhill fast, just today I noticed Cman 1/2 chrome extensions are now made in China too.

Channellock brought back production of the molded grips on their code blue line to the USA, so now the whole tool qualifies as USA made again.

I've seen quite a few other companies in the past months bringing USA made to new prominence on their packaging and advertising.

It seems as if "Made in USA" is seeing a renewed popularity as a marketing angle, which as a fan of USA made goods, I couldn't be happier about.

I also love imported goods, but I hate how lopsided things have been for so many years, just so shortsighted people could save a buck in the short term, and lose two bucks in the long term.

The only thing craftsman left is sockets and RP wrenches for now. Maybe the few pliers they still sell as well . Its crazy to look at a catalog for 08 compared to what is available today. That is probably why they no longer have a catalog. They couldn't fill it. They will either change things around our go bankrupt and have the name bought buy another company and things can be changed kinda like with SK.

I believe you are correct. I work for a big box home improvement retailer and I know for a fact they have people at their corporate offices whose soul purpose is to surf the internet looking for negative comments made about the company.

This is great news, especially since I already have upgraded with the non-USA stamped ratchets... :(.

Oh well, remember the old saying, 'it's what's on the the inside that counts...'. The non stamped are still the same awesome ratchet, and hey, now they'll be "collectable"!

That is something you can set up on a computer, you do not have to have someone do it manually. Anyone can have a flag sent to their computer when their name is mentioned in forums etc.

I was one of the vocal people who contacted Snapon with my thoughts on them removing the made in USA stamp. I was told it was a marketing decision but being a marketing professional myself I saw it as a bonehead move and told them so. They finally wised up and listened to their customers. I think the Snapon company comes across as a bit arrogant and this came back to bite them.

Yeah I know, at this rate I bet the sockets and raised panel wrenches wont last too long either, although I did buy a set of the pro screwdrivers made in USA. I don't know much about the European brands but it seems they don't outsource as much, you don't see German pliers made in China, but maybe I'm wrong. It's never set well with me having an American brand not made in America.
