snap on black non impact???

Why would snap on Make a black non impact tool like sockets? Is there a need for black tools other than impact? Some of my bit sockets and adapters marked non impact. anyone know why?

Industrial finish is not the same as impact! There is a lot of occasions when chrome isn´t optimal due to flaking/chipping etc.

I've seen plenty of old sockets which had parkerizing on them for a military-type finish, that were NOT impact sockets. The parkerizing was there to prevent rust while not being "chrome and shiny", something the military shies away from. These were WWII-era sockets, though, I don't think they were recent sockets....

FWIW, some of us just prefer the industrial finish. My first Snap-on tools were complete sets of industrial finish 1/4"/3/8"/1/2" sockets/ratchets/bars/speeders and combination/OE/box wrenches.

Over the years, due to the rarity of the industrial finish, I've had to compromise and accept the chrome and now my box has maybe 30-40% chrome.

They only made those for NASA to prevent the 1 in 1,000,000 chance of a chrome flake flaking off.

I have some 1/4" wobble extension's from snap on that look to be impact but are stamped (not for impact use)

They also make them for GE Aerospace, P&W Aircraft Engine, Rolls-Royce, etc etc

They are for use in industries that cannot have any foreign objects that will contaminate whatever it is they are working on. Chrome flakes.. They also make ratchets that use rivets instead of screws to hold them together. They call them foreign object damage ratchets. Not serviceable, but still lifetime warranty!

I have some of those sort of tools. My best guess is that they're for power tools like air ratchets, not impact use.

About 90% of what they buy where I work, are industrial finish, but the reason is cost. Wrenches and ratchets too. I like them better, in that they are not as slippery.
