Im new here, and a fairly new tech. And I am looking to get a bigger box. My local snap on guy has a box that looks like it would be pretty good for what I want, just want more opinions. Its a SnapOn krl722 I forgot the exact size but its a double bay about 55" wide 24" deep. The retail is $5495, and he will sell me one for $3495 in whatever color I want(leaning towards extreme green). Do you guys think thats a good deal or should I look at other boxes like matco or mac?

here is a pic I found of one in black.

Does that price inclusse the stainless top?

(Ectreme Green ROCKS!)

no, but he said he can get it for a good price whenever Im ready.

what you doing as tech? repair anything or limit area?

i have many questions...

Im at dodge/chrysler/jeep dealership, and I do anything from oil changes to motor swaps(cummins and hemi swaps with in my first month there), rear end work, and limited trans work.

Not a bad price for the truck(even better if the dealer will let you RA it instead of sending you through SO credit). You could probably get a better deal off the local CL if you have cash in hand. One thing that I learned real quick is big tool boxes are nice(I bought a Mac Tech 1000 top and bottom as my first, and mostly likely my last), but if I could do it again I would start out with something that is easier to move from shop to shop unless you're 99% sure you'll be at the same shop for the rest of your working life. Good deals on boxes will always be out there, so it might be best to save the "big box" purchase until you're at some place that you really want to stay at for awhile.

I dont plan on moving this place for a long while. but that does make alot of sense, I hadnt thought of that. It would **** to move around a box that size or bigger a couple times a year.

theres nothing in my area. new orleans has some stuff, but I hate that city and would rather not get a box I just bought stolen on the ride home.

me too as former heavy line technician for Chrysler Jeep dealership with other shop as mercury Lincoln dealership. When i worked at Chrysler Jeep dealership, that dealerships are closed down and gone! i found a job a month later after dealerships closed and let me go even they dont want lose me... i am working for largest ford mercury Lincoln Dealership in Indiana as Andy Mohr... i work as heavy line technician but in gas engine dept but act like general technician when i dont have engines to repairs...

I had upgraded three times from 40in wide box as combo top and bottom to 54in wide box KRL1001 with older snap on top chest KR1200 then i found a craiglist for KRL1203 that i went and made a deal(450 dollars for it) the KRl1203 had been dropped but body shop guy had worked to straight it out and work good. then i found a used KRL1003 to match KRL1203... i paid my KRL1203 for 450 dollars and older KRL1003 for 1,500 dollars.... it is much cheaper than buy new snap on box today... i work a lot and use a lot of tools... right now i still use my KRL1203, KRL1003, Matco MSC12 (great service cart i ever use), and Older usa made Craftsman bottom box(full width 6 drawers)

I live in south central louisiana, houston and pensacola are both almost 4 hours away. I think that price is pretty good considering Im getting a brand new box for 2k less than msrp off the truck, and I also get 10% back in tool certificates.

hopefully I dont run into the same dealership issues as you have. I think I should be alright, Im at the biggest dealership in my city and we also have chevy and toyota. Im hoping that I can make this box last for a while, and then buy a matco msc12. Thats the best cart I have seen, one of our chevy tech has one loves it.

Is SO the only tool truck that stops by where you work? If not, maybe try some other dealers to see what they have. Sometimes they might get a snappy trade-in or cut you a good deal on something they've had on their truck for awhile. I've found sometimes it's easier the work out deals with noobie dealers too because they might be more motivated to move stuff since they most likely don't have their inventory paid for like an established dealer would. When I was in tech school, we just got a new snappy dealer and he had a nice new victor torch setup($350+ I found out later) that I bought from him for next to nothing because he didn't have his price sheet to see what it actually cost. Just try to be patient. The best deal likely isn't the first deal you come across.

That box in Atlanta area could be found for $1,500 in a month of looking. I saw one in Jade green a few weeks back for $800. That was a great deal but it would not be hard to find in ing very good shape here for $1,300-1600. and $2,000 would be a fools price unless it was dealer new. Then maybe $2200 max. I have been buying and selling boxes for about a year so I kinda know what I am talking about in my area.

I have matco and mac also. the matco guy doesnt want to deal and the mac guy is a **** so Im not buying from him. None of the 3 have any trades or have had any in atleast 4 months(atleast nothing I want).

i would not worry about myself at Andy mohr Ford Mercury Lincoln dealership as have lot of fleet contracts, good customers, even Andy Mohr who own about 10 different make dealerships even doing good...

I got the same box right before x-mas for the same price. I've heard of others getting it for around the same price as well, so its not an OMG how can i pass it up deal. I basically turned mine into my cart, and kept an older (70's) Craftsman 26" as my machinist/not used everyday stuff. The complaints i have w/ the 722 is the lack of drawer height. It took some re-arranging to get everything to fit and i', still not 100% happy. I came from a HF 41" top/bottom/side combo and those drawers were a bit taller and would fit things like my soldering gun with no problems in the shallow drawers. I'll try to snap some new pics of the contents of mine to give you an idea of what i fit where. hopefully it will help you picture your layout before you lay out money!

Forgive me if it seems like I'm hijacking this thread but I too am looking at this same box. I keep reading about prices in the $2800-$3500 range for a new KRL722. I'm located in the SF Bay Area (CA) and when I spoke to a dealer re. these lower prices, he said that prices like that were unheard of. Is pricing like this just in certain areas? Should I speak to another Snappy dealer? Any advice would be appreciated.

KRL1022 has one more medium depth drawer in eack bank........

1022 is the best S.O. two bay box.

It is deeper as well, which gives it a LOT more space that way, I'm happy w/ my 722 "cart", i like the overall height, and the ability to move it easily. The 1022 would be better (for me at least) if i had a set bay or two that i was always in.

you can always come down here, i'm sure my dealer would sell another at that price.

Thanks, I also have been watching the local CL and other classifieds and know that there some deals out there. The reason I asked regarding the dealers is that they will take a trade in.

I wish this was an option but Socal is a bit too far from us to make it happen. Now if he was going on a vacation to SF and could bring one up that would be cool :)

Dont know how far Fort Smith, Arkansas is from where you're at, but if don't mind a crappy football team all over it, this looks like a good deal:

No phone number though.

I wish I could have found a deal like that, but I havent since I have been looking, probably since december.

I know exactly what you mean, I have 2 bays at one end of the shop and a 4 post I work on all the time(diesels with welding machines) on the other end of the shop. I dont always want to roll something around but at times I need to.

And I pulled the trigger today on the 722 in extreme green, it was dropped off this afternoon. I am very happy with my choice, its the exact color I wanted and the perfect size box for me.

heres a quick pic of it.

I bought my krl722 a month or two ago for $3000 minus my trade in of $2200,so $800 off the truck. The prices aren't unheard off it just depends on how bad the dealer wants to move the box.

Sweet! The color looks great. No chance of walking up to the wrong box now huh?

Sweet pricing. What model was the box that you traded in?
