I found a good deal on a box locally but the model number is different than I'm used to..It doesn't begin with K or KRL like most, so I'm having trouble finding any info on the box. I will attach a few photos, including the product label and hopefully 1 of you can help!! Thanks

Model # SM16-389
Serial #W427405A

Doesn't have the nice spring casters like KRL boxes

What's up with the top looking like it's AL in one pic and maybe some painted version of it in another. Ditto the missing drawer stickers...

Captain obvious here, but I've never heard of the series. There was a classic series a few years back and this looks like a love child between that series and the KRL series

From my research so far, I'm thinking it's a Lil older, but I'm just wanting to know more info on it, quality issues, worth, etc..I can get it for $1000 with a few tools..it does need 1 slide replaced, but overall it seems nice. Thanks

Idk about newer snap-on boxes - mines 20 years old and going strong, and I know many others that were in the repair field with them in good shape still.

Worth is more personal preference. I don't care for the gold....maybe you do. But what is your use? Home use? Shop use? Planning to move it often? The top snap-on emblem makes me think it's within the last 10ish years, and round keys were introduced around 2004ish so it's not older than that

I haven't priced boxes in a long time. I'm sure for 1k it's better than a craftsman or husky unit and not much more costly. Inspect the casters and in particular if the sheet metal where they're attached is. That's a week point in all boxes...slides, bent drawer bottoms, etc.

I don't regret buying mine and it still suites me well for home needs. Doubt it will ever be replaced. That said, a snap on box isn't a must...it's what's inside that really makes you money

Absolutely...I'm definitely a tool addict. I buy the best tools for each category no matter the brand. The inside of my box is a rainbow. Appreciate the advice..

It is a krl box , if it’s 24” deep it’s a krl722, if it’s 30” deep it’s a krl7022, when a box is ordered with different drawer configuration or different color /trim combo it will have that style of model number meaning it was modified

This is correct. In addition to being 24" deep, KRL722 boxes do not have spring casters. Based on the photos this is a factory customized KRL722. For $1,000 including some tools and the bedliner top, as long as there are no major surprises (i.e. rust underneath from sitting outside) I would consider this a bargain. It's hard to say exactly how old the box is since it's customized and casters are easy/common to change, but I believe those are the current KRL casters.

Appreciate you guys responses..very good point about the rust..it's been outside about 2 weeks under tarp, from what I was told, so I will do a thorough inspection, and we'll see..I will update either way. Thanks again!!!
