What can you tell me about the model of this box. A friend of a friend is selling it due to financial problems. He used to work as a pit crewman for a circle track race team. He said he bought it in 1993 or 1994. It is 44" high, 50" wide and 21" deep. What do you think is a fair price and what should be top dollar?

Picture was sent to me via text, and is the only image I have.

Thats a KRL661. The value depends on several factors. If it's just dirty and will clean up good and is in good working condition with the keys I would say 1000 dollars. If it;s dented, scratched, no keys, faded I would go as low as 500. Look at it person and judge for yourself. I've seen some rough looking boxes xlean up really nice. Paint chips are the biggest tell

Depends on condition. How well do the drawers work? Is the paint just dirty or is is nicked up and or rusted. Drawer liners? The pic makes the box look rough. If the drawers work well and the paint will clean up, its in the $800 range as is. Cleaned up and working nicely, $1200 to $1500.

If the drawers are rough or don't work well $500 to $600.

The guy has had that thing since 1994 and it still has the "Lock and Roll" sticker on the drawer. :headscrat: :wtf: :dunno:

In any case, I'd value that box at $900-$1200. Maybe more if the box looks better in person.

thanks all for the info, and the model #. Both myself and the box is in Los Angeles. and its tough trying to locate any SO box for under $1000. The guy is looking for $750 so I will need to see it in person first.

I need to move east, in CA. that's a 2K box or more.

There should be info on the back of the box , giving you the model # etc.

Based on the picture , dimensions listed and the years of possible purchase it is a KR661 or a KRL661 if it has Lock 'n Roll drawers.
It appears that it does as it looks like it has a Lock 'n Roll sticker on the top drawer.

The KR661 is in catalog #200 which was issued in July of 1993.
The suggested list price as of November of 1992 was $ 2995.00

The KRL661 is in catalog #300 which was issued in January of 1995.
The suggested list price as of December of 1996 was $ 3485.00

It is hard to put a value on the box based on that picture alone.
Since he didn't even dust it let alone wash it is hard to determine the condition of the paint , etc. , but I can make out dents in the trim on the corners of the box.

If it is badly scratched , dented , rusty , missing keys , has bad slides , bad casters , etc. it is worth less than if it was in better condition.
It looks like you will need to look at it in person to determine the actual condition.

Boxes typically sell brand new for less than list and used retail varies by location and condition , but figure roughly around 20-30% of new retail for an older box like this .
If you figure he paid $ 3000.00 your looking at $ 600 (20%) - $ 900 (30%) as a rough guideline.

If it is in nice shape under the dirt be prepared to go toward the higer end of the range but that doesen't mean you have to go that high.
If it is not look at the lower end and there is nothing that says you cant get a good deal on it and pay less than $ 600 even if it is in great shape.
It is your money , you will have to decide what it is worth to you.

It is a very high quality box and considerably better than what you could buy in a store for the same money.
