Can you guys help me make up my mind on this before I drive to go look at it. It is a bit of a haul to go see it. $2,000 and is supposedly in like new condition. KRL7002APC. Anyone know how old this would be (approximately)?

jay50, why do I get the feeling your term "check out"; might mean more then to "go see" this awesome Snap-On box? If all of the sudden we don't hear from you for awhile; I would only assume you "checked out" this box for good! LOL! :)

I take it from your responses that I should jump on this before it gets away. I offered less, but he said his Snap On guy was offering him $1,500 to buy it back..I presume to sell used at a significant mark-up.

So, will he sell it to you for $1500? That sounds like a deal to me; that is a very nice box; that would be my "dream box"; for sure! :)

My suggestion is to show up with 2,000 in cash, show him 1500 and see if he bites-as mentioned, this economy is hurting a lot of techs with dealer closings, this creates opportunites. Cash in hand today is better than a Snap on trade tomorrow...I have a similar box but older...some jerk tried breaking into it, never got a drawer open, but pried the drawer fronts open on two drawers. The box is well worth it, even for 2k, if you need a secure box, if you get it for less, good for you...It's not one of those holy smokes, how did you get that deal, but it's better than fair. This might be overkill for the hobbyist, however, if this is like mine, it's deep (29" if I recall), which is a HUGE advantage over the shallower boxes when it comes to area.

I think $1500 is the right price. Check out ebay, I doubt you could get $2k for this box, even if it had a stainless top on ebay.

I've done some searching on ebay and craigslist and $2000 seems like a heckuva deal for this size box in the Master series. The latest version of this is $6,815 on the SO website. If it is in the shape he says it is in, I would feel pretty good at $2,000. I offered him $1,500 already, but he came back at $2,000. Maybe he thinks his SO guy will give him some other benefits/tools in addition to the $1,500..or he might think there is some other reason he would rather deal with his SO guy rather than make a couple hundred extra bucks. But, again, I'll try offering $1,750 (if it looks as good as he says) and see what happens.

I fall under the category of "hobbiest," and this is probably more security than I need. But I do need a new box and I was probably going to go with something new in the $1,000 range. Everything I look at in that range, however, seems to be much lower quality, and only 18 to 20 inches deep. The 30 inch deep drawers will make it so that I don't need a top cabinet, as I can store so much in these. I like the idea of keeping the shorter height.

I think $2000 is a very fair price if it is 'like new' condition. I have the same box in cranberry - not quite in 'like new' condition that I bought for $1500. But, I had to buy new draw liners, touch up paint, slider lube, etc. which cost another $150+

I am not sure what the guys situation is that is selling the box. However when I was a MAC tool dealer I had to pick up a few boxes with the sheriffs dept that were sold at low prices. The problem was I (Mac Finance) still owned them. People would get behind on payments or move and sell something like a large box or scan tool that they had only made a few payments on. Then when they found out they could actually go to prison over it they would always say where the box was.

Bottom line make sure the guy selling has it paid it full. It should be very easy to prove.

If everything is legit; if you can afford it, that would be a very nice "lifetime purchase" kind of box; that would serve you for probably the 'rest of your life... as long as you don't run out of storage space... LOL! :)

I recently bought a like new KLR1003 that came with that hardwood top and a tool cart and I am very satisfied with the KRL moldel. $2K is probably a good price if it really is in like new condition.

I saw in the toolbox thread that you sealed the deal! Nice! How did the negotiation go? Did you get him down at all?

Started at $2,300, then got him down to $1,950, then back up to $2,000 when I spent the extra 50 bucks to have him deliver it. Well strapped and padded in the back of his pickup, and he brought three guys with him to help unload it. Well worth it to get it immediately and not require me to rent a truck w/lift and make the extra trip.

Very nice, great score! I agree, the $50 delivery was well worth it, I spent more than that on renting the trailer + the materials I need to haul mine! And it was on my and my father-in-law's time.

Enjoy!
