My local SO guy has a box coming in on trade. It is a intimiadatior box similar to the one pictured below only it has a side cabinet on each side of the bottom box, making it a 4 bay. He claims it is in excellent shape (but what snap on man wouldnt) He is asking $8500. Said he would give me 3500 for my current box. Bought it from him in sept of 08(have kinda out grew it)

Snap on credit has a deal finance $7500 get $1500 in free tools. He said the net would be @1125 or something like that. Bringing the box down to $3800 or so.

I owe about 1000 or so on my box now. The payment is about 25 wk. I am about $1300 prepaid on that (Pay at least $50 every week)

He claims the payment would be arround the same.

What do you guys think? Should I work him a little bit more?

Thanks

I would try.But I think the 1500 in tool credit is the closing deal on that one.

Try to get a little more on your trade.

that is a ton for that box. if there is any way you can get a loan outside of snap on and buy a box off craigslist you will save alot. you should be able to easily duplicate that box for $4k or so and then sell yours. now you won't get snap on inflated trade in value when you sell yours, but you'll still be way ahead.

If you find that toolbox all 4 pieces on Craig’s List for 4k in excellent shape let me know, I’ll buy it for the garage!

Didn't see the extra side cabinet, still would't go over 5k. And I think that deal can be found, even at 4k to 4.5k. Have found similar deals, you just have to look, be patient and have cash. If I find it, I'll post on the classified and assume it will be snatched up:bounce:

Bottom line is that you are paying $5,000 to trade up. Even with the free tools with the credit, you are probably adding way more than $1500 in credit charges.

Also, if it were me, I would rather have a large full depth triple bank, than a double with side boxes. Is that Intimidator a full 29 inches deep? (My guess is it's not).

If you shop Craigs List and eBay for a while and are patient, you will see some amazing boxes sell for 30-40% of new price, sometimes even less. Sure, there are people asking crazy sums for their boxes (that never sell), but there are reasonably priced boxes too. I have seen quad bank KRL's sell for less than $8500

Save your money for a bit, then buy a clean used box privately for cash. Sell your's to recoup as much as you can, and you will be WAY ahead.

Trade = repo?

Its not good to start all discussions like this with "In this economy, blah blah", but do you "need" $1500 in tool credits, and are you real sure you could not go through your existing box and clear some space?

Moving a bunch of most used tools to a tool cart might work too.

Seems like $2k to $3k buys an awful lot of box used these days.
