I picked up this snap on chest last wed. Not in real bad shape, pretty scratched up, and real dirty. Pulled the drawers, started cleaning, welded up some extra holes, and smoothed out most of the dings. 3 coats of primer, and about 4 coats of color. Far from perfect, but alot better than it was. The box is from 79, and I am kicking my self in the *** now becuse I thought I would rember the model#, now there might be to much paint to read it. I have a kr59 that will get fixed up next to go on top of this one. I pulled a small drawer out of the kr59, and brought it to diamond vogel, they mixed up an industrial enamel that is about a 100% match to snap on red. I used valspar hardner, and thined it down with xylol. It was about $80 a gallon, witch beats the hell out of $25 a rattle can from snap on. Please excuse the overspray on the casters, they will be getting replaced.:rocker:

I like it.

I used to have a box similar to this one and sold it to a guy for practically nothing because at the time, I had no use for it. I'm still kicking myself for getting rid of it.

Enjoy your box.

Real nice other than the casters you are going to replace. One of my sponsors has a body shop, for my boxes I was thinking it'd be easier to have him do the painting. I'd do the prep and primer. Would the finish be alot better? I've never had alot of luck with spray paint, especially on large surfaces.

Some guys have good luck with spray cans, and I'm not one of them. I have a cheap hvlp gun that I have used on stuff like this for along time. To me it seems like you can get a much nicer, even, finish with a gun.

I got the kr-59 painted today! I wish that it looked as good in person as it does in the picture. Got a small run, and a few small fish eyes. Over all it looks pretty good, and should last another lifetime.

Very nice job, Jason. I have that exact same bottom box. It's in very good original shape, so it won't be receiving any paint work.

I'm the opposite of you, I've learned how to manipulate spray bombs to produce a really nice finish. But, I do want to experiment with a spray gun. Seems like it would reduce a lot of labor! :)

and btw, if you keep that magnet tray on the side of the roller long enough, it will leave circles in the paint. I've had that happen to me.
