Looking to upgrade my crapsman for my side job at the dealer on the weekends...I was never a auto tech student, just self taught. I mostly service vehicles with oil changes, tire rotations, brakes etc...nothing major i am an extra hand on the weekends. My question is... a lot of my co-workers have nice boxes and apparently they got them for half off retail. I really want a KRSC33 cart in orange and I feel like its overpriced at 950.00...Do the drivers cut you a deal at the dealerships?...just started and this box is the right size cause i can take it with me after a days work...

No offence, and much as I love SO boxes, but is a SO box really worth paying for if you're just helping out at weekends? My advice would be get an plain cart (like the ones you can get from HF for $40-$60) and just put your tool box on top of it.

If you really want a SO to match the other guys in the shop, I'd be looking second hand. There's one on ebay for $500, although you'd have to arrange shipping for it, as it's pretty far from you http://www.ebay.com/itm/Snap-On-Too...1285380950&pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&vxp=mtr

Crewchief888 is correct. I know for certain Mac tools and snap on both offer half off on most things through a student discount program. My brother is taking machine shop in high school and gets a discount. You have to order through snap on though, not off the truck.

My brother in law is an auto tech and he just bought a sweet MAC tool cart around that price range. It has these really cool drawers that won't slam shut. You push the drawer in and then the slides dampen the push and automatically pull the drawers in the rest of the way. He used a HF tool cart for a while till he needed more room and wanted drawers all the way down.

I don't need it...but the similar hf one I saw didnt come in orange....plus it's something I have wanted for a while now...just trying to get it cheaper. My side job pays for my tool obsession and car hobbies and that box will delay my new injectors and turbo race scroll manifold for a while

I would worry less about what your co-workers have and more about what you want/need. If you want to buy the cart, then do so. I'm sure that the SO guy would be happy to order it for you. If you're more patient, then you may be able to find a cheaper deal on CL or eBay. That's my knowledge vomit-on-you for the day.:puke:

Large discounts on boxes are very normal, even for people not in a student program. The krl722 retails for 5760 and my dealer offered me one for 3k without bargaining at all. However, I think they have less room on the carts. I got my
Krac326 cart for about 300 off the 1400 list price, buy I had to wait until my dealer could get a deal on it.

I figure anyone willing to put the extra work time in on weekends should buy what they want, since you didn't ask for opinions on other brands/boxes I'll leave that to everyone else. The KRSC33 is a very nice cart, I've personally seen them around local pawnshops/flea markets in damn near new condition for around $500 and there is no doubt in my mind that any dealer that handles any volume should be willing to deal. Doesn't hurt to Ask?

No way I would spend that much on a tool cart.
But that's me
If you think it's worth it then you need to have a conversation with the snap on guy.
Start the conversation with....man I really want that cart, but I just can't justify the cost. Anything you. An do?

Well I like the quality and I stand behind snap on even though most of my coworkers are convinced new stuff is made in China

Spend $800 on a cart... you are proud of it... its expensive, quality, etc

Spend $200 on a HF cart... paint it, modify it, add a shelf, outlet, grommets, nice liners... you will be proud that you saved a few hundred and built something cool.

I could have easily done this in orange.

Well I ordered it thru the dealer today 680 out the door and an orange set of instincts for half price....I think I got a pretty good deal...this job is more of a hobby so I enjoy working there. He did say that he would cut me a deal on accessories in the future and if I wanted a bigger box he could take it on a trade later on...

Go for it, just ask the dealer what kind of deal he can cut you , worst he could say is " nothing"

Congrats on the SO deal. That is one thing SO has... trade in value.

Enjoy it.
