Hey dudes! New here but long time on-looker. Thought I'd post some of my "tinkerin" around at the shop with this box. First I'll introduce myself..

My name is David, I'm from Memphis,TN. I run a boat restoration buisness and do paint and body work during the week. I'm also a paramedic.
Anywho I got this box from a guy for cheap and I was bored so I decided WTH why not waste some money and burn some brain cells!
My original plan was to paint it matte black with gloss black trim and drawers handles. I beat the dents out, Body filler, putty, epoxy prime and I did one drawer and wasn't really liking it. I thought about it and never seen one with the liner on the entire box. I've seen them just with the top work bench done.
My exp with bedliner hasn't been that great. I always referred my customers to line-x because that stuff is awesome on a boat! But I didn't wanna spend more on that than the box itself. So I decided I'd go with this rustoleum professional grade bedliner. " it's a two part epoxy based product" none of that single stage ****! I sanded the mess outta the box with 36 then 80g on the DA. Gave it some nice teeth for it to grab to. I did experiment a little and found this product to work much better if the product itself is warm and the metal you put it on is warm almost hot to the touch. I accomplished this by leaving a heat gun on it for about 5min. Also the product cures faster and the metal takes it in and really holds tight when it cools.
Some of the slides were toast! Bearings rolling around everywhere in the box. Do y'all replace with the accuride slides or pay the money for snap on? I'm not finished with it. I have a few more drawers to do. Prep work is a real PiTA on a tool box!! I'll update as I go along. Sorry for long post fellas!:pimpflash:thumbup:

I can't wait to see the result.

On the issues of drawer slides, I don't know how good your relationship is with your Snap-on man is, but mine has warrantied out whole toolboxes of slides on really old boxes.

I would check that out before I spent the money.

Great Idea!I have the same bottom box,a KR557.Fortunately its in great shape since we don`t have to worry so much about rust out here in the west.The Rhino Hide would be a great option for the inside of the big drawers,where big,heavy and greasy tools get thrown around.

I think Matco is selling a box that is rhino guarded from top to bottom.. I know getting the dust out of the counter top on my box is a PIA, I hope yours won't have that problem.

Your exactly right max! I did coat the inside of the drawers...well the one I finished Atleast. ****** I think that's where I got the idea from! You mean getting the dust out of the liner in the corner of the box?

Nah man just getting dust off the rhino in general, but I have a hutch so I can't soap and blow dry it with out making a mess of my hutch .

A tooth brush and a small tip shop vac hose is how I clean nooks and crannies ******. But it's like beating a dead horse lol

Like I said soap and a high pressure blow gun gets it out of the liner, cuz u can't use a rage to wipe it off but yes it is beating a dead horse for sure.

Figured I'd update this! Called Snap-On customer service. They were awesome! They are sending me 7 new sets of ball bearing slides free of charge!! I've heard mixed things from folks about snap on's warranty but they granted mine no questions asked! Thank goodness because 7 sets would be pretty $$$!
The drawer handle lips are near impossible to get them back on the drawer after the liner is applied. They will bend before the liner does and when that happens it's over with! On boats inside the rim of the compartments is a similar part it's aluminum with a rubber type deal over the aluminum. This is what I will be going back with. Here is a picture of the casters after I cleaned them up a bit!
