KENOSHA, Wis. – Snap-on has acquired Challenger Lifts Inc. for approximately $38 million in cash.

Challenger, with 2012 sales of approximately $45 million, designs, manufactures and distributes a comprehensive line of vehicle lifts and accessories to a diverse customer base in the automotive repair sector.

“Challenger is an important addition to our Repair Systems & Information Group,” said Nick Pinchuk, Snap-on chairman and CEO. “The Challenger vehicle lift product line complements and increases Snap-on’s existing undercar equipment offering, broadening our established capabilities in serving vehicle repair facilities. We believe this acquisition will further Snap-on’s progress along its strategic and coherent growth runway of expanding with repair shop owners and managers. We look forward to welcoming Challenger associates to the Snap-on family.”

Makes sense. Now they can completely outfit a shop. Maybe they will sell me one on payments like hand tools? :)

Cheap new lifts start at about $1500, get pretty decent before $2500. Good used commercial brands usually half that or less.

i've used a variety of lifts at shops, including mohawk, rotary, ammco, bend pak, and challenger. i personally really like the challengers at where i work right now, i wouldn't call them junk by any means.

Challengers are ok, but the Nussbaum lifts we have at my current shop are the nicest I've ever used.
