Snap-on Canada kc556b friction slide ?

I recently picked up a 5 drawer roll cab, Snap-on Canada kc556b.

Some of the friction slides are fubar and Snap-on doesn't have replacement parts. I could fix them if I can find a replacement spring steel that is riveted on either end. does anyone have any ideas of sources? I measure the piece as 5/16" x 1 1/4" x 1/32". Somewhere in my travails I've seen something similar but longer, maybe inside an older aluminum window frame latch?

Ask snap on for measurements to double check, but IIRC 8-267 is the updated part number for that slide.

I sent an e-mail to ask about #8-267. I did find that # in the snap-on catalogue but no measurements.

The measurement I have for this slide, 8-267 is 0.5 x 1.5 x 16.

15 3/4” x 1 3/4” x 5/16” [399mm x 43mm x 8mm].

Take a look at steel strapping for that spring clip. Second option is a clock spring section cut down to size. The slide section is not that difficult to fabricate, either.......have made a few.

Try 8-380. Snap On's parts catalog for the old boxes is riddled with inaccuracy and in my experience the folks on the phone are little to no help in cross referencing the part numbers or putting any thought and or effort in on their end.

I'm trying to figure out how. I can take a computer apart and put it back together but software escapes me.

I haven't had a chance to sit down and study the chart. I will this weekend and cross reference with slides that I have ordered and charted.

So I went to a few stores looking for steel strapping/banding. I thought it was a good idea but I guess the times are a changing....only plastic nowadays! I decided that I would try using an old hacksaw blade and grind off the teeth to make a slide removal tool. I put the blade into a vise and ground the teeth

worked great as long as you use a good quality blade, a cheap one shatters when you try to bend it slightly on the end like you need to do to make the tool.

Here is both sides of an original stop

While I was making the tool I saw the hole at the end of the blade and thought it looked close to the same size as the hole in the slide. I ground the blade to size and length

Give it a slight bend to match the original stop

The new piece goes through the hole and I used a nail as a rivet

The "rivet" has to be peened quite flat or the drawer won't close properly. I used a punch with a 1/4" round flat end to flatten the nail and ended up using my 16 oz finishing hammer to pound it flat enough. I used a scrap piece of 1/4" flat stock under the rivet head while peening.

I fixed 4 slides and my box is working like new again!
